Failing that, perhaps the Museum can help.

Re: .2

That's not reasonable.

In many countries Beta is still sold in significant volume. Beta equipment
is still manufacture by Sony and is used by many organizations for
professional applications (ENG cameras for example) as the picture quality
is significantly better than VHS. It is also kinder to the tapes.

speaking of Betamax tapes: would anybody like some?

I no longer have a Beta VCR, but I brought a box full of [American
    - so probably slightly different length than British] Beta tapes
    back with me.

No charge but recipient must collect from me (I'm in Hampshire house)

>> -< There's nothing wrong with Beta >-

I didn't say there was. But the proportion of BETA to VHS machines
in use in the UK has been decreasing steadily over the years and
is now relatively small. The museum of Industrial Archaeology at
Amberley has an example of an early Phillips machine & it would
certainly not surprise me if a BETAMAX machine were to join it.

	They also make VHS!

I recently witnessed a BBC outside broadcast and noticed they used
VHS. How do you define significant? I think the resolution is something
like 10% greater for BETA. VHS has the capability of increasing its
horizontal resolution for Black & White recording to be greater than
BETAMAX. As about 50% of the recordings I keep are old films, I still
come out better off with VHS.

147.7Recommendation? but whats the name?SHAPES::STREETRHave another vat of wine dearMon May 15 1989 23:409
I took mine to a place in Grafton Way? they advertise Digital
discount (and actually gave it!)..... they 'fixed' mine, but it
failed again a couple of days later, I took it back and they
fixed it again..... It lasted longer but is now broken again.

They did consider the machine 'old' (it is), and hardly worth fixing
so I didnt bother to take it back again.

    Ray.
