IMAGE SYSTEMS GROUP - NEWSLETTER
This newsletter is designed to keep field personnel
informed of the latest and most important information
concerning the Image Systems Group.
REORGANIZATION
The Image Systems Group (ISG) has recently undergone a
reorganization. The importance of this for the field is
the new Technical Support and Solutions Integration Group
(TSSI), under Ron Higgins.
TSSI has four subgroups:
1. The Technical Resource Center is a demo room where
all of the latest demos and accompanying hardware will
be available. This area is responsible for showing and
distributing all image-related demos and maintaining
the hardware and software for trade shows. The Technical
Resource Center is also responsible for demo and application
development.
Contact Dave Brunell, BJ6000::DAVE, 264-4719, for more
information on the Technical Resource Center.
2. The Technical Support Group provides image-only
technical support for the various groups throughout the
corporation who also support imaging. For example, this
group may provide image-only technical support for a
marketing group that wants to establish strategic CMP,
ISV or third-party relationships.
Contact Bob Milling, NOBOZO::MILLING, 264,2068, for more
information on the Technical Support Group.
3. The Solutions Integration Group works directly with
third-parties and OEM's to develop, for example, a driver
for a scanner that will meet a strategic need in an image
solution.
Contact Ron Higgins, VISUAL::HIGGINS, 264-0868, for more
information on the Solutions Integration group.
4. The Internship Program is designed to assist field
personnel in responding to an image-related RFP. The
program provides the equipment and technical support
to develop an image application or demo.
Six VAXstation 3100 systems are expected to arrive in
Merrimack in September for use in the Internship program.
Contact Maurita Plouff, NSSG::PLOUFF, 226-5915, to enroll
in the Internship program.
An organization chart, showing the new structure of ISG,
will be available soon.
BASE PRODUCT MARKETING
Bruce MacDonald is the new Base Product Marketing manager
for ISG. Bruce's responsibilities include establishing
CMP, ISV, and third-party relationships. Bruce is also
responsible for MARCOM activities, such as releases to Sales
Update and Small Buffer. Currently, Bruce is involved with
the announcement for Version 2.0.
Contact Bruce at VISUAL::MACDONALD.
NOTES FILE
In addition to the VISUAL::IMAGING and
EDWIN::IMAGE_SERVICES notes files currently
supported by ISG, the VISUAL::IMAGING_FIELD notes
file is available for PID presenters and field
personnel. This restricted conference is designed to
share image-related information, sometimes sensitive
customer information, among the field.
Contact Olive Corriveau, VISUAL::CORRIVEAU, 264-5235, to
register for this notes file.
PID PRESENTATION VIDEO TAPES
The mid-August PID training held in Littleton is available
on video tape. ISG will have two copies, one showing the
entire training, the other showing a shortened version of
the most important topics.
WHITE PAPER
Joel Arker, ISG's Product Marketing manager, has written
a paper outlining Digital's image program and technical
strategy. The paper also describes basic imaging concepts,
such as tonal aspects and raster images versus vector
images, component products, system technologies, output
and storage devices, and more.
The paper is located in note number 525 in the IMAGING notes
file.
PUBLIC DIRECTORIES
ISG has made available several public directories, with such
information as ISG's long range plans, imaging architecture,
documentation, and functional specifications. The following
shows these public directories:

VERSION 2.0 ANNOUNCEMENT
The announcement of DECimgage Application Services 2.0
is set for November in New York. In addition to the product
announcements, there will be several important program
announcements involving key third-parties.
Contact Gary Mason, VISUAL::MASON, for more information on
the Version 2.0 announcement.
ASSOCIATION of IMAGE and INFORMATION MANAGEMENT (AIIM)
Our image technology will be well represented at the next
AIIM show, held in Chicago on April 9-12. We intend to
show our latest demos and hardware configurations, along
with the most current third-party applications.
If you are interested in joining AIIM, contact Barry Washington,
VISUAL::WASHINGTON. Next month, in the IMAGING notes file, Barry
will provide a list of the various AIIM chapters throughout the
country. You may want to attend a meeting of a local AIIM chapter
in your area to stay current on the rapidly changing world of imaging.
