3819.0. "Kinko's contact?" by HACMAN::HACK (Don Hack, Network Services) Sat Apr 22 1995 14:44

I am on the HOME program. I recently received some mail from Kinko's.
The packet had some coupons, a discount card, etc. It looked like
Digital had given Kinko's the HOME program distribution list.

    Question:
If I am not pleased with Kinko's, who is the best contact?

I needed a color transparency from MS-Word for a presentation.
After visiting three (3) locations, I didn't get my color transparency.
The biggest correctable problem is that they didn't have the current
version of MS-Office. This is hard to believe (considering v6
has been out for many months and there are two major universities with
10 miles of here - UofMichigan & EMU). I want to inform the proper
folks that service is less than expected.

    Thanks for any pointers.
    -Don

    Hm.

When I need Kinko's to print something, I generate postscript and have
    them print that.

I don't see how the nearby presence of universities implies that they
should have a particular version of software, especially (CAUTION:
personal bias follows) that unusable, oversized, overpriced MS Word..

    re: .2
Yes, taking postscript is a better idea.

Kinko's does have MS-Word. One of my issues was that at one location
they were out of color paper and at the second, they had MS-Word, but
an older version. I don't think it is unreasonable to expect that they
would have the latest version of the software that they rent. Having
the latest version (which has backward compatability) only provides
more opportuntity for business. The comment about the universities was
to imply that they do a far amount of business and with three Kinko's
within five miles, I thought it would be reasonable to get a color
overhead from the 6+ month old version of MS-Word.

    re: .1
I'll give the number a ring.
