Today, March 22, marks the thirtieth anniversary of the
announcement of Digital's PDP-8, the world's first successful
         mass-produced minicomputer.

The PDP-8 set the stage for Digital's phenomenal success and
revolutionized the entire computer industry. Its small size
and adaptability helped bring computers out of the laboratory
and into the office, factory and field. Its low cost and
high speed opened up such a wide range of applications that
the PDP-8 quickly became the standard for the industry.

Thirty years ago Digital changed the world of information
technology. And the work going on at Digital now promises to
do that yet again. From the PDP-8 to Alpha, we have created
innovation to be proud of -- and to build on for the future.

	 Regards,
 	 Bob

So, this announcement struck me as pretty funny.

    1) Is the only good news in the whole damn company something
that happened 30 years ago? Apparently so.

    2) If this IS so great, Bob Palmer and the board of directors
must take great pride in forcing, Ken Olson, the guy who
       made this happen, out.

Re: .1 Gimme break! The PDP-8 and no doubt a load of other
great products succeeded due to the efforts of many teams of
people and a receptive market. Ken Olsen may have skills but
making a product a success by himself is not believable.

What next, BP is _solely_ responsible for the enormous success
    of Alpha AXP?

I'd love to see him take that deal.
