3675.0. "help needed getting DEC Financial data" by MKOTS3::COUTURE (Gary Couture - SAP R/3 Consultant) Mon Feb 06 1995 15:02

I need help pulling together some Digital financial data. For my research
project in my MBA course I need to have access to Digital's revenue data for
the past 7-10 years. I needed monthly data but was told by someone in
corporate finance that monthly data is confidential. So I will have to
work with quarterly. The specific data I need is:

- Total revenue for each quarter from 85-94.
Preferably separated by US and International.
- SG&A by quarter (US & International if possible)
- COGS by quarter (US & International if possible)

Can someone help me locate this data QUICKLY? Is this data available on-line?
Or will I have to spend a day at the library digging out old annual reports?

thanks

Gary Couture

3675.1 Annual reports the best...POBOX::CORSONHigher, and a bit more to the rightMon Feb 06 1995 15:088

    	Gary -

Probably the best (cheapest and easiest) is old annual reports.
Investor Services should have them. The annual report also contains
all the "quick ratios" for you as well. Good luck. Get an "A"

Also, by using published data (annual reports) you can be sure you're not
misusing "internal use only" information.

    Gary,
If you're on Compuserve, or know somwone who is, you may be able to
find the data in the "Business Database Plus" section. Also, if you
have access to a WEB browser, there are many financial services on the
net that have this type of historical data available for free.

    Good Luck

This notes file has the quarterly reports for a long
time. They are public. Check the dates or for a title
Quarter or Q or whatever. They are all in this notes file

I have an extract of a note 2015.12 that has quarterly
from 1992 back to 87. Ill be that a little net surfing
will get you back to 84.

good luck

re: responses...

Yes, I will surf the internet later tomight to see what I can find. I was
hoping the data would already be readily availablie internally.

re: what course...

The course is Managerial Economics and the assignment is to use linear
regression tools and Time Series Analysis to try to predict DEC revenues and
costs for the next year. This is done using various leading and trailing
economic indicators as well as competitors/industry data. I don't expect
great results with the predictions since the computer industry is VERY complex
and volatile. This make it very difficult to make predictions using
quantitative techniques. But I'll try. I'll let you all know the good/bad
news forecast for what its worth.

The contents of this notesfile are labelled "Digital Internal Use Only".
You cannot assume that quarterly results as posted here are public information.

3675.8Investor relations USCTR1::CROSBY_GMon Feb 06 1995 19:0615
    Gary,

Just one more thread to chase, but......

Digital's investor relations group exists to provide this type of data
to the investment community. As a publicly traded company, Annual
reports, 10-K, 10-Q and all sorts of other neat SEC stuff (public
information, by the way) must be made available to the investor
community. You are, of course, a current or potential investor,
correct? If so, investor relations, not corp. finance, exists to help
you perform your analysis and make your own decisions.

    That's the last from me.

The Digital Annual Report, which contains an eleven-year annual
summary, is available through VTX IS.

On the WEB you kind find everyone SEC filings. I find this very useful
when preparing to speak with customers. You know all about the company
before you get there. Anyway... your can get started by getting to
    the Security APL Quote Server

    http://www.secapl.com/cgi-bin/qs

from there you can enter the symbol for the stock. This will give
you current trading information and if there is any SEC filings you
will see a highlighted "WWW hyperlinks" . select this and it will
list the filings for you. you then can print them, store them or
    whatever... hope this helps.

Funny, when I was working on my MBA at Rivier they didn`t want me to do
it on digital. Any other business would have been fine but digital was
not a good subject at the time.

You can also use VTX to get this info. We have Standard & Poor's data
in a VTX infobase. This infobase is restricted to those who contact
    Simms Pearl and register.

It contains Annual, Quarterly, Business, Register OnLine Reports, etc.
You can generate reports that compare three years of data.

Check it out. Keyword is S&P.
