3584.0. "Help from Digital in Canada..." by SWAM2::GOLDMAN_MA (Blondes have more Brains!) Thu Dec 15 1994 22:25

I have a Los Angeles customer who needs an LA120 printer for
a site in Toronto. He has been unable to locate one for sale in the
Toronto area, and came to me for help in relocating an extra from
California to Toronto. I suspect it will cost him more in time,
effort and money to do this than to buy another; he also needs it not
    later than 1/3/95.

Can anyone from Canada help me offer this customer an alternative
    solution?

This is (by far!) not my area of expertise, but I have never said "that's
not my job" to a customer, so any advice/assistance/contact names or
    numbers will be much appreciated!!

The 120's are just entering the RETAIL channel. SUN TV,BJ's and or
Circuit City are beginning to distribute this product. A fourth
retailer does not have any locations in Canada BUT,one of the above
3 may be in the Toronto area (unknown)or perhaps in Buffalo which
as I best recall was 1 hr down the Queensway from Toronto.

I fear you didn't read the base note! The device requested is the
LA120 (DECwriterIII) printer which we stopped selling about 4 years ago.

The current method of selling to customers wanting an LA120 is to
sell a VT510 and an LA310 attached to the printer port. Gives them
MUCH greater flexibility, but does consume more desk space (the LA120
was a floor standing Keyboard printer).

I'm in Chicago now, but I might be able to check around when I get home next
week. If you want me to pursue, contact me off-line.

A couple of people contacted me off-line about this, and I have now
given the customer the name/number of two used equipment
resellers in the northern US who are authorized to sell into Canada. I
    appreciate your responses.

For Products not normally on the Canadian price file, like the LA120 I
would give the customer at least 1 of our distributors.

they possibly still sell them, or a refurbed.
