3565.0. "Where is Vogon News?" by CHEFS::CURRIEI (Dyslexic snice brith) Fri Dec 09 1994 15:11

Can anyone tell me why the Vogon News Service (VNS) has been
unavailable (at least here in the UK) for the last week or so?

Or in our case, send mail to EXPAT::PUBLISHER detailing the problems. Your note
doesn't give enough info for me to be of too much more help. VNS' VTX Infobase
wasn't being updated for a few days a week or two ago - that's now fixed. If you
get VNS via mail, the problem resides elsewhere, eg a "hopper" node we use for
distribution goes down or has Nmail problems. Best way to work the problem is
sending mail to the above address.

I was trying to access VNS via VTX. It still comes up with a screen
which starts off 'You have reached this page in the Corporate Videotex
Library because a connection cannot be made to the infobase you are
    trying to access.'

I'll mail EXPAT::PUBLISHER as you suggest.

3565.4We're Offended!!WMOIS::STYVES_AWed Dec 14 1994 14:3526

I want to use these means to let someone know that I am OFFENDED.
Yesterday I had some co-workers come charging into my office and
everone was yelling at once about the VOGON NEWS, Edition 3211
Circulation 5244 dated 9-Dec-94. Most of us in this group are
proud to call outselves DECCIES. I have been with DEC for over
eighteen (18) years and most of the others have been here longer.
We were/are shocked to read that whoever wrote that article sees
us being nothing but bumbling idiots that just struggled along
until our saviors came to our rescue from the hallowed halls of
MIT, Harvard, Yale etc. etc. etc. The reference to KEN OLSEN was
totally out of line, and I won't even add IMHO. It was the people
that ran the fork lift trucks, that did the pick and pack process
that did the kitting and the shipping that got this company to the
top of the heap is so short a time. ALL of us agree that we have
absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. We are DECCIES and will
remain DECCIES for life. The so called new digital will NEVER
obtain the loyalty and dedication that we felt for DEC. We will
continue, as we did back then, to give our best effort to assure
that are customers are getting the best buy for their buck but
the spark flickered and died a couple of years ago for those of
us that are proud to call oursleves DECCIES!!!

3565.5Don't be offended at good newsAKOCOA::DOUGANWed Dec 14 1994 17:5218
Not much point in being offended or by putting this in a Vogon note.

Vogon news simply reported the editorial in the December 5 edition of
    "digital news and review".

The editorial is very positive towards Digital. The fact that it
denigrates the old "DEC" is unfortunate, it's a journalistic ploy to
point out the difference between now and then.

Nothing can ever take away the achievement of Ken Olsen and the Deccies
of building a company from zero to $14billion. But let's be honest
marketing was not a top priority in those days.

If you're really offended write to The Editor, Digital News and Review,
275 Washington St., Newton MA 02158 or dnr.com
