3414.0. "A New Icon needed for Digital?" by AIMHI::LOWERY () Tue Sep 27 1994 16:12

Since the Mill has been sold, it seems that we need a new Icon for
Digital Equipment Corporation - since we won't have the Mill Tower to
place on on the goodies we give for longevity of service, etc.

So, how about a contest for the best suggestion?

A few to get your juices flowing:
-A Phoenix Bird rising from the ashes?
    -An Alphageneration logo?
-A guillotine for all the layoff losses (just kidding, of course!)
-A drawing of the Powder Mill (is there a really one?)
    -An ALPHA chip?
    -Etc

    And the prizes?
How about a trip to Cancun? San Diego? Maynard?

    Ideas?

.0 to place on on the goodies we give for longevity of service, etc.

Just because we sold the Mill doesn't mean that we can not still use
the art work of the Mill Tower. I still think we could use the art
work of the Mill Tower - it reminds me of the company roots and the
start of this company - $60,000? of venture capital. Noone can take
this away from Digital (unless we get bought out...)

we need to spend money and time on anything else, except a contributory

You mean, mint some quarter-sized coins with the words "profitable"
    stamped into them? :-)

My ideas was to hand out Personal Floatation Devices (PFDs) with
"Digital" stenciled across them. Bigwigs would each have one with an
extra loop for attaching their 'golden parachutes'. :-)

I remember when we used to hand out the old blue and orange sailboats
during the LCG haydays with the saying 'sailing through the eighties'
(What they didn't tell you was that the sailboat was off the TITANIC)

Never made it through that one either.

The ole clock tower is on several items around our house and on the wrist watch
I wear every day.

I see no problem with keeping it unless the new owners of the mill have a
problem.

But, if someone were to come up with a really neat and meaningful icon, I
certainly could move on with it.

Who needs a logo for service awards? No one will be getting them anymore.
Most of us are just commodities these days, and will soon be replaced
by temporary contractors! All "permanent" employees (managers) will
be "released" shortly before their 5th anniversary...Keeps costs down,

I never got a sailboat, but the pen I'm carrying is a

Chart your course with Digitasl's LCG keepsake.

I had a hard time finding a refill that would fit it recently.

STAPLES? Nah, we don't carry that!

I used to have a "smooth sailing" coffee mug, but it broke.
I'm going to try to take better care of my AVASTOR mug.

For years, I had a PDP-1 manual. One time, while I was away, the cat
puked (or worse) on it, and I threw it away. I really wanted to keep
that one.

The KI poster shook loose some memories so I thought I would share this...

I have a 4X5 foot picture taken in MR03 of dual KL10's for the TOPS-10
SMP introduction. I was actually up there watching this picture being
taken [It was quite exciting with all the lights, camera, photographer,
and his crew!].

The KL's were in a computer room set [but really off to one side of the
manufacturing floor]... A small corner showing the edge of the fake
raised computer room floor snuck into the edge of the picture :). I didn't
notice it until quite a while after I hung it up in my computer room
at home!

	Thanks,
