3412.0. "Dimitri Dimancesco passed away." by SX4GTO::WANNOOR () Mon Sep 26 1994 21:08

    I was asked to post this note by Ray Thackeray

    *********************************************************************
    Dimitri Dimancesco passed away this morning.

    His wife, Diane, asked me to write this note because of my close
    association with him while working at Digital; we left the company at
    about the same time in late 1992 and maintained our friendship since
    then.

    Dimitri worked at Digital for many years and I am sure that there are
    people still at Digital all over the world who remember him fondly. He
    was one of the most kind, ethical, supportive, intelligent and honest
    people I have ever met and I will greatly miss his presence, as will
    many who read this.

    Typically, he did not let anyone know of his extremely painful illness
    of over three years and indeed was always cheerful. Anyone who spoke to
    him over the last few days, I understand, would have heard that he was
    well and content.

    Before he left Digital, Dimitri worked in ESG and the Concurrent
    Engineering/CALS Program Office.

    Condolences may be sent to Diane Dimancesco, 4 Livery Rd, Chelmsford,
    MA 01824 and there will be a viewing held 5-8pm this Wednesday 28th
    Sept. at Blake Funeral Home, Worthen Street, Chlemsford 01824 (Off Rt
    4).

    Feel free to add any postscripts to this note in memory of Dimitri.

3412.1How sad he suffered so...WELSWS::HILLNIt's OK, it'll be dark by nightfallTue Sep 27 1994 06:562
    There goes a real gentleman, and also a real gentle man, leaving behind
    many noble memories.
3412.2we were lucky to know him....NRSTA2::HORGANTim HorganTue Sep 27 1994 12:4717
    What a shock. I talked to Dimitri only about two months ago, and he
    did not tell me he was not well. But that was how he was.

    I had the pleasure of working with Dimitri in both the CALS group and
    in ESG, and we did some travelling together where I learned about his
    rugby exploits. I can very clearly recall some of those conversations,
    and his very gentle, patient manner.

    The last time I saw Dimitri I remember being very glad to see him.
    He never had a bad word for folks, he focused on the positive things
    that were going on (he told me how he had a software product close to
    being ready), and he had a very real sense of calm and peace about him
    that rubbed off on you.

    He will be missed.

    								/Tim
3412.3A few thoughtsNASZKO::GILFIXTue Sep 27 1994 17:3211
    Dimitri was a wonderful man. He was free-spirited, philosophical, and
    idealist. He frequently advocated how things 'should' be done --
    especially vis-a-vis U.S. engineering/manufacturing. He was young at
    heart, enjoying rugby matches, hiking, and camping most of his life.
    During the CALS days, Dimitri made me laugh, gave my work life more
    meaning, and assured me that youth and vigor don't necessarily leave
    after 50.

    I really missed him when he took the package; now I miss him even more.

    I am sad not to know of his illness or pain.

    Fare thee well, Dmitri, I only met you a few times, you were one of the
    good ones....
3412.6Farewell to a friendGLDOA::WERNERWed Sep 28 1994 11:289
    As one of the old timers still left around here, it is saddening to
    hear of the loss of one of the truely good guys that I've had the
    pleasure of working with several times. Dmitri was a class guy,
    personable, technically very knowledgeable, always a gentleman and
    always fun to be around. There aren't many like him left anywhere. He will
    be missed by those who knew him and those who had not yet met him will
    indeed miss an opportunity in their lives.

    Rest well my friend.

    Oh.. I am so sadden by this notefile. I worked in Personnel 26 years
    ago when Dimitri was hired. I signed him up for his benefit package,
    as small as it was in those days. He was so kind, softspoken, a
    gentleman and very smart. I hadn't seen Dimitri for almost 20 years
    when I bumped into him a couple of months before he left Digital. I
    reintroduced myself, and he said that it wasn't necessary as he
    remembered who I was and that we worked in Personnel together. My
    heart aches for his wife, family and friends. I'm sure God has a
    special place for him. He was truely a special human being.
