3325.0. "Woodstock_94 != DECstock_94" by SMURF::MANDELL () Fri Aug 12 1994 14:20

This is weekend of Woodstock '94 and we are being bombarded
with charts, photos, reminiscences, etc comparing the current
version to the original in '69.

Well, for most of us DECstock is closer to home than Woodstock.
Does anyone out there have any info on what DECstock was doing
in Aug, '69? Any other ideas come to mind about how this
company has changed in the past 1/4 century. I'll bet there
are more tie-dyes today than there were in '69, but I'd be
real interested in hearing from the rest of the community.

Yea, that's it.. This past few years in DEC has just been a
	bad acid trip!

Hey man, I've got Alpha's using my brain as a waterbed and
check it out, Bob Palmer's hair is talking to me...

You mean, we may wake up one morning and there's Ken Olsen stepping
out of the shower, a la Dallas?

Probably the best description of DEC in 1969 is on p.57 of the now-classic
"Computer Lib" by Theodor H. Nelson. (He wrote it in 1974.)

I agree. Ted Nelson's book got me interested in computing - and in DEC.
I seem to remember his line about DEC vs. IBM was something like IBM
is to DEC what Kodak is to Nikon.

Of course, Nelson's crazy hypertext/Xanadu ideas are finally blooming with
    things like MOSAIC....

I met Ted Nelson 2 times, and he was quite an interesting character.
Incidentally, his mother was actress Celeste Holmes.

In May of '69, Digital Stock split three-for-one.

(Taken from the book, Digital at Work - Snapshots from the
first 35 year) - a great book to have in my opinion.
