3235.0. "Customer support question" by NUBOAT::HEBERT (Captain Bligh) Wed Jul 06 1994 14:59

I returned from the long weekend to find one message on my VoiceMail, and
I need help before I respond to this message.

The message is from a customer, and he was obviously erroneously given my
DTN. He's looking for some support, and I'd like to see him get it - or
have an intelligent answer to provide him. His name is John Brewster, at
Wayne State University. He was originally calling Martha Pinto. He needs
to know who supports the MASPAR-DECSTATION system (I confess to *not*
knowing what this is).

His number is 313-577-5527.

Who can help him?

Thanks,

Art

Have him call either Ron Renaud, 508-493-4161 or Jean
    Gaillardet.

Jean manages the relationship between Digital and Maspar.
I would recommend Jean be the first contact.

I believe Jan Horton is the new account manager for Wayne State. I
will forward your note to her.

Thanks.

I left a message on Jean Gaillardet's voicemail, and I sent mail to
her...

I hope the message finally gets to the correct person.

Thanks,

    RE: .3

It made it. I support the MasPar/DECmpp (a massively parallel SIMD*
machine manufactured by MasPar Computer Corporation in Sunnyvale, CA,
which uses a DECstation 5000/240 as a front end) and received mail from
a co-worker who spotted this note. I have since contacted Jan Horton,
the account rep, and left voice-mail with the customer.

For future reference - when trying to find out where a product is
supported, or who supports it, call:

                                    1-800-354-9000

I don't read this notesfile very often (except when there are rumors of
a fight during a BOD meeting!) so getting to the folks in Colorado
would help in having the right people contact the customer as soon as
    possible.

HELP!

I just took another call, similar to .0, but from a different customer.

This was from Rick Hoffman, of the Sinclair Intermediate School District
in Detroit, Michigan. He had called Martha Pinto at 347-5061 (he didn't
remember the area code), and was told to call my number.

Rick is looking for information on a Modem Pool.

His number is 810-364-8990.

I tried to look up Martha Pinto in VTX ELF, and there is no such person.
Rick said that she was terminated (how would the customer know this, and
why)???

I need to determine who (probably in a sales office in Detroit) is giving
customers my number.

Mr. Hoffman said that he called Martha Pinto's number. He got switched
(automatically) to the operator, who gave him my outside number. I can't
get to the operator there, because he couldn't give me the area code
(reason unknown, and I didn't want to press it). And, I can't call Martha
Pinto's number, because she no longer shows up in VTX ELF. He said there are
multiple area codes in Detroit?

3235.8Try this!GLDOA::RAOR. V. Rao Fri Jul 08 1994 19:298

Try (810) 347-5600 for the switchboard operator at OHF (Novi, MI)
where Ms Pinto used to work till her TFSO. Sue Needles at this office
was/is Martha's Sales Unit Mgr and Barry Clark is the District Mgr.
    Their secretaries may help.

I think I've fixed the problem.

I spoke with Sid Hebert (note!), the regional manager for educational
customers, in the Novi, Michigan office. He answered the number I found
for Sue Needles (I didn't have this notes string up, so I looked her up
in a hardcopy Digital telephone directory).

My primary concern is that customers get serviced without a telephone tag
game. Sid (he pronounces it ay-bare, I say heebert) Hebert promised to
fix the telephone misdirection.

Thanks to all,

I think there's a new area code in the Detroit suburbs, but the old one (313)
still works.

Not after 8/10/94. After that date you'll need to know the area code -
either 810 or 313. The Digital office is getting the new (810) area
    code.

FYI, I got two more customer calls yesterday, so this is not resolved
yet.

The Detroit (Novi) area office people apparently work for a manager down
in Louisville, Kentucky. I've been on the phone with several people down
there. One had exactly the wrong idea: "I'll have someone call them and
see what they want." NO, I said. I already took the information on what
they want. I want someone who KNOWS about purchase order #xxxx, and
someone who KNOWS about CSLG to call them armed with information.

Sheesh. Maybe I'm in the wrong end of this business.
