3121.0. "S.O.S. SAVE OUR SALES!" by DPDMAI::ROSE () Fri May 27 1994 18:54

S.O.S.	S.O.S.	S.O.S.	S.O.S.	S.O.S. S.O.S. S.O.S. S.O.S.	S.O.S. S.O.S.

SAVE OUR SALES! SAVE OUR SALES! SAVE OUR SALES!

I called the Competitive Hotline (1-800-DECISIT) today to get some information
about my competition in an upcoming sale worth several million dollars. First,
I received an "all lines are busy" message. I started making some calls to
people I know in that area and it seems as though the Competitive Hotline has
lost its Corporate support and funding.

Digital is closing the hotline! Talk about having an impact on our future
sales... this is coming at a time when we finally have products that allow us
to sell directly into the competition's environment (StorageWorks for Sun,
Novell, etc.). Our Alpha platform has just reached its first milestone of
critical mass in terms of application availability. For the first time in too
long of a time, we have an opportunity to really attack the competition rather
than take the defensive and make excuses and promises to our weaning loyal
base.

We need to keep the Competitive Hotline alive!

Can someone explain why we would do this? I'm hoping that this is a simple
cutback that just looked good on paper and can be reversed, because the hotline
certainly helps us directly produce revenue. Comments?

I thought the powers that be recognized the error of their ways when they tried
to close down 1-800-DECSALE.

Assuming that the Competitive Hotline is reasonably effective, what would
anyone other than a blind beancounter do this? Can this be the beginning of the
end for Digital sales?

Unfortunately, our sales group was informed that the Storage Works
hotlines are ONLY for Storage Works Specialists and our Business
    Partners.

>>>	Please call. We want to help!

We'd love to but we've been told not to. Besides, how can you help
with a competitive situation that doesn't deal with storage???

Well, it's official. I've been officially notified that I'm being
TFSO'd. Unless nothing changes, my last day will be this Friday.
In the meantime, I'm gonna try like crazy to find a position. If
anyone knows of someone looking for a documented #1 performer who
really can contribute, I'd appreciate any leads.

Attached is a summary of my resume, if anyone wants it.

    Thanks

    I remain,
    wanting to remain,
    Kev
