3062.0. "Friendly competition between sites?" by ROMEOS::VOLKEN_BR () Tue May 10 1994 23:22

    site competion, such as friendly softball games, sales of a specific
    product/service, carpool participation, charity contributions, etc
    would stimulate teambuilding amongst the employees at a particular
    site, and the competition would not have to be harsh so as to alienate
    persons from different sites (in fact it would bring more people
    together socially). Is this the responsibility of the employee
    activities committee or can site management coordinate the events?

    I'm game to play an away match with BET (Barbados) or XBE (Bermuda)
    anytime, if Digital provides transportation.

3062.3Soccer "Friendlies" can be lots of fun.ROYALT::BERGARTJeff-the-refFri May 13 1994 14:3916
    I am a FIFA Referee. I was called once upon to referee a friendly soccer
    match between two "rival" Digital Engineering Groups.

    We "modified" the rules to make things safer (e.g. no sliding tackles),
    and I was very forgiving of "beginners mistakes." Young and old, man
    and woman, athlete and non-athlete participated. It was lots of fun!

    I am always available (for free, ... or maybe for a slice of pizza at
    the after-match celebration...) to referee such "friendlies."
    Soccer is a great sport were even if you're not very good you can have a
    really nice time. I'd be pleased to help any group in the
    Maynard/Marlboro/Merrimack area put on a match.

3062.4the ZKO team is the strongest team hands downSTAR::ABBASIchess is cool !Fri May 13 1994 14:4810
    i think this is a good idea, but we here in ZKO will beat any other
    team from any other site, even the MSO team we will beat. especially
    in chess, we have the best chess team here in ZKO.

    so, any time any of the other sites wants to compete with ZKO lets us
    know we'll beat you up very easily.

      Working in the GMA sounds like fun. We don't have enough folks out
      here (customer land) to do team sports and all that kinda neato
      team-building stuff.

	Oh well, back to work, let me know who wins 'k?

	Larry

	PS: Sorry, bad day...sure wish they would tell us what we're
	gonna be metriced on next month so I could try to build a
	pipeline...
