	Rusty's group has been broken up ... if you want a custom 
	solution look at RTR or	ACMS; of course these products only 
	run on our boxes with our (mwahahaha) "open" operating systems.

	Guess that's what you get for writing in BLISS or designing
	your application as a user developed system service that lives
	in the O/S kernel ...

ACMSxp runs on OSF/1. But there are *plenty* of possibilities. Please

    The bank has its stock info on-line.  The reason we are looking for a
    mfg. type application is that the bank needs to automate many of the
    activities associated with stock transfer activities.  For example, if
    proxy statements or dividends need to be sent out, then these jobs need
    to be scheduled, prioritized and tracked.  Supplies need to be
    inventoried, reordered, etc.  This is the mfging aspect.  It could, of
    course, be written.  But to win this one we need a package which does
    at least 3/4 of the work required.  Any more suggestions?

Try VTX SOFTBASE.  Choose the Vertical Industry option.  Browse through
the Banking/Finance offerings.  Or call Dave Pepin (Financial Services Marketing
Group Manager).

    Most any discrete manufacturing mrp system should do the rudimentary
    scheduling and materials management required. Either Softbase or any
    one of a number of people in the Manufacturing Industries segment
    should be able to help. Or, any of the discrete mfg psc's in digital
    consulting should have folks knoledgeable in partner applications.

    Why not sell some consulting to help your customer define their
    business requirements?  It sounds like a good opportunity for a
    manufacturing business consultant such as myself.
    
    This would make more sense (and generate more revenue for Digital) than
    throwing third parties at the customer, IMHO.

    We did sell reengieering consulting, which led to this RFP.

    Why not look at a real work-in-process software package, that could
    create a workflow, monitor it, kick off agents or processes --
    please see Mike Guerette (Product Manager of Reliable Flow Manager).

Any discrete manufacturing control package will handle this requirement - its
a straight MRP-II deal - take "customer" orders for the goods to be 
manufactured and schedule them according manufacturing lead times and provide
materials to a given Bill of Materials (BOM).

For example, TOLAS from GSI Transcom, or Manugistics, and probably two or three
hundred others - look in the VMS or OSF Software Source books for heaps. Other
ones that I know of may not be of much use, as I'm in Australia.

Bear in mind that many of these packages have very sophisticated inventory 
control and shop floor tracking capabilities, which may price them out of your
range.

If you don't have to deal with large numbers of reschedules, and are basically
making product from scratch to specific order each time, with a limited number
of products and raw materials, this takes most of the complexity out of an MRP 
system (to produce a Master Production Schedule) and it may be cheaper to roll
your own. Alternately, there a number of fairly simple PC based MRP packages
that may suit, as well - use the PC as a server? ;>)

How may different products are you dealing with, how frequently are they 
produced, does production of them overlap, do you need to re-order your 
production schedule according to different delivery priorities, for example.
How many parts go into a product ...

     What about VARS? Who can I point a potentional customer to that is
    interested in becoming a VAR? Thank on-site diplomacy for this. I
    scoped VTX to no avail....
