3032.0. "Digital contacts" by CCAD23::TAN (FY94-Prepare for Saucer Separation) Wed Apr 27 1994 04:33

I have a prospective customer whose business requirements include international
assistance of the proposed system, at the following sites:

Ilkley (sp?) near Manchester UK
Atlanta
Brussels
Dusseldorf.

Can anyone help me to ascertain:

a. the nearest Digital office to each of these sites
b. a contact name
c. the types of services available ; eg. MCS, Consulting etc.

I need to get back to my customer by Tuesday 3rd May.

Many thanks,
Joyce

>Ilkley (sp?) near Manchester UK

>a. the nearest Digital office to each of these sites

The nearest office to Ilkley, Yorkshire, is almost certain to be the Leeds
office. There is also an office in Warrington which is resonably close.

>b. a contact name

Depends what for. The DTN's for the main xboards are:845 2111 (Leeds).
                                                        :851 2111 (Warrington).

>c. the types of services available ; eg. MCS, Consulting etc.

I know that Warrington has both of these, and I think that Leeds has.

    Joyce,

For Ilkley the Leeds office is your point of contact.

Put your request to Richard Eagland@LZO
    who's the (sales) Branch Manager.

It's not as easy as it should be - to answer your question I need
to know to which market segment this customer belongs to and then I
will start to find the respective 'entrepreneur' (e.g. if it was for a
customer, dealing with finances, it would be Cologne). Is it a customer
beloging to Large or General or whatever Accounts ???

Here are some phone numbers that might help:

  LOCATION DTN MTS	Switch Board
  ------------------------------------------
  Essen (Branch + FS) 770 CEN	3011
  Frankfurt (Distrct) 861 FRS	3011
  Cologne 860 COO 6011
  Munich 865 UFC 0911

Will wait for your reply and try to help.

depending on what systems you have available, I have found a great
resource in using VTX, there is a menu which allows you to view the
Sales Contact. You go into VTX, into the menu which is Sales
Reference...(something) and there are many choices from there, but one
of them is "account management contacts..." and you can obtain account
rep infor by several ways, customer name, customer number, amid number
    and another.

At the very least you could come up with the Branch manager, CAS rep's
    etc name and DTN.

Hope this helps, it has been very helpful to me many times

Hi Juliette,

Thanks for taking the time to help. I work at the ADC (Application Development
Centre) - we build custom software for customers in a number of industries.
My customer is the NZ Wool Board - I'm not sure where that fits in terms of
your market segment classifications.

They are interested in the types (and cost, of course) of support services that
Digital can supply, initially at these 4 sites. I guess I'm assuming that
we *will* provide such support services, on say a time-and-materials basis?

They're asking about h/w + s/w installations, training, software upgrades,
system testing, help desk. Tuesday's meeting is hopefully an opportunity to
impress them with how responsive Digital's network can be.

 (yup /nasser, all 744 of you) :)

ie. we hope to be able to provide contact names and give them a brief outline
of the Digital office at each location.

The RFP is due in 3 weeks, so by that time, I'll need to be able to supply
costing figures.

All help/advice/pointers appreciated.

Thanks again,
Joyce

Sounds to me like an opportunity for some serious global Outsourcing, I
am working on a number of similar situations, Customer wants to
grow/exapnd rapidly into a number of countries, and needs a partner to
make it easy, and then run it for them as well, contact me offline if
    this makes sense.

3032.12Similar RequestBRYAN::ARCHERFri Apr 29 1994 13:2212
I'm working on a proposal for GM/EDS and they have requested a list of our full
service support centers, worldwide. There are potentially some global projects
under consideration. Is there such a list or a resource I could contact? The
"full service support center" is one such as the ones in Atlanta or Colorado
that provide the full range of support...expecially phone support.

If such a list is unavailable, the current project under consideration is slated
for the United States, Brazil, and Germany. Those three locations would be
adequate for now.

Thanks,
Brian

i know we're a paperless company, but you could browse swiftly through
the Digital international phone directory and find the addresses, phone
    nos., fax nos. etc.
3032.14BRYAN::ARCHERFri Apr 29 1994 14:025
well....

Sounded good but its hard to tell what offices are "Customer Support Centers" as
the names seem to vary across geography. Also, getting a complete list would be
difficult.

    re .12

You should be extremely careful providing such information to EDS as
they are one of our primary competitors in this space.

Suggest that you take the same route as .0 and contact WWIBS or
other IBS contact - explain that it is EDS who is asking and request
Digital Consulting OMS and Digital MCS business management approval
    to release info to EDS.

Re: .15

With all of the large outsourcing contracts EDS is winning, they may end also
up as one of our biggest customers...

We meet with them this week to discuss the Xerox deal.
