2980.0. "Quality control program for custodial services?" by TOOK::MORRISON (Bob M. LKG1-3/A11 226-7570) Mon Apr 04 1994 22:33

About a year ago I read a memo on a Digital facility somewhere in the Greater
Maynard area that established a quality control program for custodial services.
That is, they had an industrial-type quality control program for functions
such as cleaning the building, keeping the rest rooms stocked with paper, etc.
I usually save things like this, but I can't find it at the moment. Has anyone
heard of a program like being done in the Greater Maynard area and if so, at
which facility(ies)?

Maybe it was just one of those April fools joke memos.

I heard off-line that there is/was such a program in Westfield. Maybe it
covered WFO and SPO, since they were about 10 miles apart.

Our janitorial services out here in WFO have been contracted
out for quite a few years to the lowest bidder. We have been cutting
costs here drastically over the last few years so these services are
down to a bare minimum. As such I would think some quality problems
     would be expected and forgiven.
Enclosures Manufacturing here did try to go to a six-sigma quality
program a few years ago.It was quietly dropped when it was found far
too expensive to statisticaly hold our tolerances that tight.

Don Gilbert was responsible for the six sigma process at SPO. He made
a presentation in 1991 to Corporate Administration Org. I don't know if
he is ther any more but it is a good presentation that he has.

Well, if he is still in Springfield, he isn't with Digital, and if he
is with Digital, he isn't at Springfield, MA.
