Getting just a little desperate in NAC Marketing, are we?
2956.2Free AdvertisingMKOTS1::SKONETSKIFri Mar 25 1994 16:045
Not at all, but a little free advertising never hurt. And I am
hoping this will set a trend and we will do this for all our products.
We have great products we just have to tell the world about them.

As the late Richard Daley, Mayor of Chicago said:

    			 "Vote early..vote often".

Apparently someone's grip on the handlebars of reality is getting
    a mite sweaty in Marketing.
2956.4Just be *honest* when filling out the surveyHYDRA::BECKPaul BeckFri Mar 25 1994 16:4714
    RE .0

If you're a reader of Data Communications, then there's clearly nothing
wrong with returning a reader survey. Filling it out as a DECHUB lover
(assuming you are one) is also perfectly reasonable.

Claiming to be a customer -- if you in fact are not a customer -- is
dishonest, however, and would create a risk of backlash if the magazine
learns of it. (Possible headline "DEC stacks deck, invalidates survey".)

We want to get the message out about our products, all right, but
shouldn't we be wary about giving out the wrong message about our
    character?

OK I am on the defensive. And the note was not in jest. Moderator
if you feel that the note is asking people to be dishonest please
    delete it from this file.

I am not suggesting that any one lie or do anything dishonest just
if you read Data Communications and you or your Customer like
the Hub products please fill out the questionnaire. That's
it, there are no other motives other than some exposure for
    Digital.

In my roll (field sales tools) I deal daily with the field and one
of the comments that I receive is "why is Digital never listed in
survey results in publications" so this was my small attempt to help in
    this area.

And just for the record the DEChub products (the 90 and the 900)
    are very competitive products.
2956.8QUARK::LIONELFree advice is worth every centSat Mar 26 1994 23:0310
As a moderator I agree with Paul Beck. Stuffing the ballot box
is dishonest and could seriously backfire. This is not the first time
such a suggestion has been made, and I recall that in a past occurrence
there was an emphatic statement by upper management that such
    action was explicitly discouraged.

I'm not going to delete the note because I think that this is something
we all need to be aware of.

Is this much different than 'managing the [customer] survey process'?
(discussed in another old note).

Lee (not defending ballot-stuffing... I agree with Steve Lionel...)
