2251.0. "BANKING BUSINESS IN ENGLAND" by ICS::VERMA () Mon Nov 30 1992 13:56

    Mod: Please move it to another appropriate note, if one exists.

    Over the week-end I ran into an old friend who is in the Software
    Business. During the conversation I found out that he had recently
    been to England to visit Barclay Bank. The bank has a planned project
    requiring 50,000 (fifty thousand) workstations. Barclay is an existing
    Digital account but Digital is NOT a player in this project. SUN, HP
    and IBM are the current three bidders.

    If the Barclay Bank info is correct, which I have no reason to doubt,
    can someone, especially from England, enlighten us as to why we are
    losing large accounts like Barclay?.

    I thought we had made couple of acquisitions in Europe to strengthen
    our position in the Banking Industry. Can anyone shed some light on
    this issue and, may be, share our current strategy?

We are not losing major accounts such as Barclays! We are extremely strong in
the finance markets here under the leadership of Jamie Graham @HHL. I'm sure
his offices will be more than aware of this size of opportunity in one of
their accounts and will already have provided loss reasons if indeed such a
project has been lost. Why not drop him a mail?
