2058.0. "Airlines Antitrust Claim - Is Digital going to collect?" by CORTEZ::WATKINS () Tue Aug 18 1992 21:04

I received recently in the US mail a form from the US District Court
of Georgia, regarding Domestic Air Transportation Antitrust Litigation.
Briefly, the court has found that the domestic airlines were
involved in illegal ticket price fixing during the period of
1 Jan 88 to 30 Jun 92. The airlines have agreed on a settlement which
involves awarding travel discount certificates to people who travelled
during the period. (I've greatly simplified the above description. The
form I received explains the details in four pages.)

I did a significant amount of business travel during the period. I
could file a claim for my business travel. But...does anyone know if
the Corporation plans to file one big claim? I really doubt that the
Company will do this. It will take a lot of work to collect the
documentation needed. And it will take a lot of work to administrate
the vouchers that the Company receives.

Yes the Company is putting in a claim on behalf of all related
Business Travel for its employees. There is a note on LiveWire.

Digital - Travel Services update: Digital to process business travel claims
	related to airline antitrust settlement
	{Livewire, U.S. News, 30-Jul-92}
Digital Travel Services will be processing employees' business travel claims
associated with a recent airline antitrust settlement. The settlement is the
result of a price fixing suit involving American, Delta, United Airlines and
USAir. These air carriers have been ordered to issue credits or ticket
vouchers to travelers who purchased domestic airline tickets between January
 1, 1988 and June 30, 1992.
Claim forms were recently mailed by the United States District Court to
everyone who purchased domestic airline tickets with a credit card during the
time period mentioned. This mailing was sent to notify claimants of their
rights, and provide a claim form for submission.
Digital Travel Services will be responsible for the process of identifying
and submitting claims for all BUSINESS travel during the above time period.
Employees who purchased airline tickets for PERSONAL travel should submit an
individual claim form. Employees should not submit an individual claim for
business travel tickets issued by Digital's agencies under contract (American
 Express, TravelMasters, and Guide).
The final terms of the airline antitrust settlement must be approved by the
court. The hearing is scheduled for October 19, 1992.
Details will be posted in VTX TRAVEL as they are released.

I'm pleased to hear that DEC will be putting in a claim on the basis of air
travel arrangements made through our agencies, however, what of the $$$$ spent
by employees, like myself who did not use DEC travel agencies and who claimed
via expense claims? I have estimated that DEC spent $40,000 on my air travel
during this period. This entitles DEC to $4000 in travel certificates.
(Not everyone finds the corporate travel agent convenient or cheaper.)

I purchased airline tickets for personal use through AMX during that
time period. What do I have to do to submit a claim?

    What's the deal?

Sorry I don't have it with me ...

the current Business Week has a Personal Business article on this which gives
info about the litigation program and the address to apply for a claims package.
