1887.0. "Office furniture" by DECWET::JAFFY () Thu May 07 1992 19:58

Contact for available/transferrable office equipment from facilities
    in the western region.

I'm looking for available module dividers, desks, desk chairs, bookcases,
and file cabinets suitable for work area. We are in the process of
equiping an area for software engineering and test and need to purchase
the above items. Considering the number of DEC facilities that have
closed, I thought someone might know who I can contract about said
    items.

    Appreciate your help.

You have checked DIAL haven't you?

Try the local district office in the Koll Building. The phone number
is 206-637-4000. Ask for the facilities manager. There is a lot of
furniture stored downstairs in the annex.

I'm working with the basenote author on this.

Yes, we have looked in DIAL, but, incredibly, there is no furniture
there. We have also contacted the facilities manager of the annex.
We have made inquiries at sites we know are closing, also, but are
getting the usual DEC lack of response.

We just find it surprising that there is no furniture in DIAL given
the closings. We put this note in here as a last resort. You can
safely assume that we have already explored all of the normal avenues
    to obtain excess capital items.

The Tempe, AZ location has a huge room full of the kinds of things you
are looking for. Some of it came from PNO, the Phoenix Manufacturing
Plant, and some from TFO, the current location. Contact Pat Bowie or
Tom Whitby in facilities here for more info.

Maybe you could try PDC (Property Disposition Center).

1887.6The real process!MTADMS::VOGTMon May 11 1992 16:5417
There was so much furniture it was taken off DIAL about a year ago.
The internal Digital coordination is performed by Brian Stockwell,
HAPM, DTN 296-4322; MCIS5::STOCKWELL; FAX 508-480-4044; FAX DTN
296-4044. He is a one man show and very busy. I would suggest sending
him an E-Mail indicating by line item and quantity what your needs are
and in what timeframe. He has had manufacturing and field facilities
forward a 6 mos. rolling demand forecast and he fills it on a first come
basis (first, qualified whether request is for fit-up or re-fit - the
    former getting preference).

Once internal needs are met the furniture is passed on to the PDC. It
will have been written-off by the C/C and is put out for bid and
ultimately outplaced from Digital by the PDC.

Any questions call me ( DTN 267-2329).

I'd like to thank everyone who responded, either in here, via mail,
or by phone. We got several good leads and have identified all of
the items we need. We are in the process of having it sent here.

As for taking all furniture out of DIAL, I'm not sure how this info
is supposed to have been communicated. It would be nice if a note
were to be entered into the DIAL system with something like the
    contents of .6.

I once worked for a company that had 7 people doing extensive software
development on a 730.

Somehow, the discussion of the 730 and 750 in a topic titled "Office Furniture"
seems incredibly appropriate :-)
