1880.0. "Interacting Via Video -- Inventory of current practice " by CRLVMS::JWALKER () Fri May 01 1992 20:45

Subject: Interacting via Video -- Inventory of current practice

I am developing a description of where and how interactive
video is being used at Digital. By "interactive video", I
mean any two-way contact with someone at a different
location in which you and the other person can see and hear
each other. This definitely includes video conferencing and
workstation based video; there may be other things as well
that I'm not familiar with but would like to hear about
(like picture phones?). It does not include video that is
broadcast by satellite because, as I understand it, that
does not involve TWO-way VISUAL contact.

The first step is to develop an inventory of how interactive
video is being used. This inventory will document the range
of current uses of interactive video and will serve as the
basis for some future studies of how groups do their work
using video. In addition, we anticipate being able to use
this information to help others in Digital learn to use
interactive video effectively and to provide information
that can be used in refining our interactive video product
offerings.

Do you use interactive video? Would you be willing to
answer a few questions either by telephone or by email on
how you use it, its benefits and drawbacks? If so, please
send me a message with the following information:
1. Your name
2. DTN
3. Email address
4. Approximately how many hours a month you use interactive video
(I need your name only to make sure I can actually locate you.
All survey responses will be tabulated anonymously and the
confidentiality of all respondents will be protected.)

Please answer by sending email to me at this address:
  CRL::VIDEO-INVENTORY
or
  video-inventory@crl.dec.com
(whichever form is more familiar to you).

Please do NOT answer the note in the notes file so that we
can avoid filling up the notes archive with material of
little general value. If for some reason you cannot reach
me by email, you can call me at DTN 259-6618. (Outside
number +1 617 621 6618)

Please feel free to circulate this request to other general
notes files or to friends who have experience with using
interactive video. I look forward to hearing from you so
that I can learn about your experience with interactive
video. Thank you very much.
