1815.0. "NEED TO START A NOTES FILE" by NEST::DABY () Mon Mar 23 1992 15:12

    I am looking for instructions on how to start a new notes file. Anyone
    out there know how this is done?

    There should be a lot of helpful information in OASS::VAXNOTES_INTRO.
    Or try the command HELP CREATE/CONF in notes.

    Also, tell your system manager (if on large,shared system) what you are
    doing. If you don't, you may find your conference deleted....as I once
    did at a VMS upgrade .....once (after that I killed the system
    manager..)

    P.S. Also announce it in the easynotes conference, right Alfred?

         I created a couple of work-related conferences and found it to be
    quite easy. The CREATE CONFERENCE command it how you get started, but
    first be sure you're familiar with overall conference policies and
    guidelines....like someone mentioned a few back. Also, get some space
    alloted for your conference first. The two I created still need a
    home. They are presently located in my account. This isn't a problem
    really because they're very low volume.

In addition to the technical side of creating a conference, you might want to
take a look at some of the operational and ethical issues which come up.

There is a conference for conference moderators, title: MODERATORS no surprise
there, hey ?). Send a note to: ZENDIA::DESNC_MODERATOR for membership.

In addition to creating a conference (which is is really quite easy, as
outlined previously); there are other issues such as 'Does the system manager
want another conference' on 'their' system ?

Aside from this, though, is the day-day operation and running of the conference.

STOP! That's the wrong conference. The moderators conference listing appears
to have disappeared from my copy of EASYNOTES.LIS.

I would check with turris::easynet_conferences before going any further.
(KP7 or SELECT to add the conference to your notebook)

1815.7Contact your network manager as wellGOLF::WILSONTue Mar 24 1992 16:059
    Ken,
    As your site network manager, I'd like you to contact me also, so
    that we can evaluate any potential network congestion problems which
    may be caused if this is to be a high traffic notes conference.

    Please contact me offline.
    Thanks,
    Rick   GOLF::WILSON
