1547.0. "Help/Technical Advice Wanted..." by CLOSUS::J_BUTLER (L'audace, toujour l'audace!) Mon Aug 05 1991 21:20

    I have not yet seen a "help needed" topic, so here goes.
    (Good Moderators, please feel free to move this, if desired!)

    I need to find the decimal ASCII codes for certain keypad keys...
    in particular, the <PF1>, <PF2>, <PF3>, and <PF4> keys.
    I have a list of codes for most of the rest of the standard
    keyboards. (CTRL/Z IS 026, CTRL/S is 019, etc.)

    Any help or advice would be appreciated!

    I'm answering this from home, where I don't have the manuals, but the
    keycodes are in all the terminal manuals, from the VT100 to the VT420.
    Each function key sends a sequence of keycodes, starting with escape.
    The exact sequence for the keypad keys depends on the keypad mode,
    application or numeric. In numeric mode, only the PF keys send escape
    sequences; the others send the regular numbers, -, , . and carriage
    return.

    You should be able to find this easily in the manuals. If you want to
    parse them, there are ANSI parsers available inside the company; the
    TERMINALS notesfile should help you there. The advantage of using these
    is that they can easily understand all the escape sequences.

    Is there anyone out there who is using output from DECdesign (DFD
    and SC diagrams) as input into one of the ONLINE document (BOOKREADER)
    types for DOCUMENT to process ???

    If so, then you're going to make a lot of people very happy if you
    share your knowledge with the rest of us.

    I've tried numerous conferences without success,
    ie BOOKREADER, CASE, DECDESIGN, DOCTOR, DOCUMENT, SW_TOOLS_CATALOG,
    TOOLSHED, etc.....

    They nearly all specify the same problem, but allas, no solution.

    If it's a process I have to follow, and or tool I can use, then I'll be
    pleased to hear about it.

    Regards,

    Ian.
