| I've seen VPs come and go that made a tempory difference in the
stock price but never a VP change that changed anything for any
employee other then their direct reports. VP changes don't concern
me. Should they?

Wang would try for someone of his calibur. He's a good organizer, from what
I've seen. He was a prime mover of the Software Product Services business
in its start-up days under SWS.
I'll see what the local management knows of this.

| The rumor is true. I work for the US EIS IS Data Center at MRO. I was
called into a meeting at 13:15 today and advised by Jim Kissane that
Bill resigned at noon today. His position at Wang is Sr. VP in charge of
applications design, development, & implementation.

That's what my DSWM heard, too, when she got the official word. Unless
he is planning on eliminating those other Country-level managers, I would think
it's an interim thing.

| Can anyone calibrate as to Ferry's relationship to the recent creation
of three levels of management within EIS? If he was the author,
we may have won more than we lost. Otherwise, his frustration with
empire builders could be part of the picture. Which is it?

up an application generation business given his spotty success in the same
thing at DEC. Some successes, true, but the initial organization(s?) didn't
strike me as having much leadership at any level, nor clear attainable goals.
That's why I speculated earlier that he was picked to revitalize their
packaged services business, ie, installations, start-up training, system
support, etc, using the State contract as support. That's where he made his
mark at DEC.
From the other side, in fairness, I'm skeptical of the support he was
getting from either other high level VP's or even some of his reports in
getting our "integration", and "solution", and "program" business united into
a cohesive, sellable organization.

You are correct, Ferry did work for Gullatti, and Russ is taking over
his responsibilities for the near term.
I got a memo today which came from Dave Grainger and Russ Gullotti
which said something like this:
We regret to announce that Bill Ferry has accepted a position with
another company effective immediately.
Bill has made a valuable contribution to Digital Equipment Corporation
in the last 12 1/2 years; we will miss his leadership and energy.
Russ Gullotti will be acting U.S. EIS Manager and working with the U.S.
Management Committee during the transition.
