748.0. "Vote of Confidence." by BISTRO::WLODEK (Network pathologist.) Sun Mar 12 1989 11:13

I've observed ( limited sample ! ) that some notes conferences
	have following life cycles,

      - pioneer stage
Few enthusiasts start a conference to nourish common interest.
Everything is smooth, easy and fun.
If conference is a success , it grows, grOWS and GROWS and starts
living it's own life. If there are many moderator actions, some
people start asking questions about moderators mandate.
The enthusiasts may feel frustrated, others tell them what is their
	creation !

      - mature stage
It's difficult to achieve it without common agreement on moderators
and moderation rules. Moderators need to know that they have confidence
of majority of the reader and readers should have confidence in
moderators judgment. Without this consensus, it is difficult to take
	any unpopular but necessary actions.

I don't know of any other way then some sort of "popular" vote
	to establish this consensus.

DIGITAL is great conference, moderators, especially Tom does
in my opinion an excellent job.

But I admit that "moderator elections" out of the blue was bit
clumsy .-) If there is a need of elections, it should be organized
properly, on the other hand, we could have a "vote of confidence"
	straight away.

******	Call for a Vote of Confidence for DIGITAL's Moderators. ******

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

	ps.

Of course this ballot should not and is not meant to replace
any discussion of moderator practices, this is why I don't think
	you should repost it.

Not to be a spoilsport or anything, but how many more ballots are
going to be held? Can we get back to the regularly scheduled
	conference?

I'm at a loss as to why the subject of Moderator Bashing has become
    so popular lately.

The moderators of this conference, like all of us are only human.
They have volunteered to spend much time keeping the conference
    on track and within bounds.

It seems to me that when someone has an issue with a moderator,
it should be taken-up through mail, not here.

In my humble opinion, this particular subject has cluttered up the
conference in far too many topics.
