> Who would one talk with (besides the obvious, their PSA)...
Start with your own manager. Also talk to your local recruiter
as well as those in some "target" areas.
Read the VTX JOBS book and the JOBS notesfile. Contact people
who have openings in fields you might be interested in. If the
job is not what you want, ask for an informational interview.
You may want to post a resume in JOBS, but I'd recommend being
fairly specific about what you are looking for.
Find people who do the jobs you might be interested in. Ask
them for informational interviews, and/or ask them to put
you in touch with their managers.

A lot easier at DEC than many other places, but you must be
patient. I did it once, but it took 2 years.

Friends of friends.
Read work-related notesfiles which cater to people in those
fields. Then contact people who seem approachable (ie.
people whose names you've become familiar with in other
notesfiles, etc.)
These are some ideas off the top of my head....I'm sure others will
have more.

| Within Digital, switching between organizations should be a piece
of cake, particularly if Engineering (where the standards are somewhat
more rigid) is excluded.
I have had 4 different positions in DEC spanning 4 separate job
code categories:
Inventory Planner Materials
Financial Analyst Finance
Principal SW Spec* SWS*
Consultant Finance
* This job was subsequently reclassified to a DIS job code, I think,
Consultant B
Outside of DEC, I've been a:
Cost Accountant Finance
Systems Analyst SWS (-like) External Consulting...
Accounting Manager Finance
and have acted as Project Manager on many projects both within and
outside of Digital.
Having an MBA helps - many different jobs and organizations have
this attribute as common demoninator in what they're looking for.
I would be happy to share my experiences, answer any questions,
etc.
I may be able to be MOST helpful to those interested in a Finance
job. We have an ON-GOING need for systems-oriented persons who can
talk debits and credits in addition to bits and bytes. If that person
is also fairly knowledgeable in Rdb/VMS, data management and/or CASE
tools, there might be IMMEDIATE interest...
Best of Luck,
Bob
