678.0. "Helping the earthquake victims effectively" by SUPER::HENDRICKS (The only way out is through) Sun Dec 18 1988 18:48

Recently Newsweek magazine published a list of charities accepting
donations for Armenian relief. Posters have been cropping up at
our site for the same purpose, and Vogon News also posted a list
    of addresses.

Does anyone happen to know which of the charities listed have the
least overhead in terms of getting money to the actual victims?

Does DEC match funds given to the religious organizations?

    Thanks,
    Holly

I only have the Newsweek list handy:

I believe that the overhead in the Episcopal Presiding Bishop's Fund
for World relief has already been paid for. This means that if
you give a dollar, than a dollar will go towards relief.

I do not know whether Digital will match donations.

		Armenian earthquake relief donations

On the next page is a partial list of agencies accepting cash donations
to the relief effort in Armenia. Checks should be marked ARMENIAN
EARTHQUAKE RELIEF in the memo space. All donations made through
qualified agencies (those with tax exempt 501(c)3 numbers) will be
matched dollar-for-dollar through Digital's Matching Gift Program.

Please request that all agencies send copies of their tax exempt
letter, charter/goals & objectives back with the Matching Gift form.
The forms are available through your Personnel Office and must
    accompany each donation.
