515.0. "Promotional Items?" by SNOWY::HEDRICK (South Central Area Support) Thu Apr 21 1988 16:52

On May 17-22 the World Age Group Games in Tumbling and Trampoline will be
held in Lubbock, Texas. My wife is in charge of mailing and selling of the
tickets to over 800 foreign participants and not including all (~1500) of
the American participants. The World Age Group Committee is requesting if any
companies have promotional items such as pens, pencils, scratch pads, bumper
stickers, key chains, balloons, bags, or any other items to please send them.
They will in turn give out packets to these Americans and foreigners upon
arrival.

Does Digital do anything like this? Am I in left field? If Digital does then
please refer me to some place or person. If no interest in this I will delete
this pretty soon.

Thanks,

glenn

Glenn -

Certainly we *do* have promos - you could certainly start by ringing up the
Bedford Bookstore. Do we get involved in stuff like you're describing?
GFQ! (Good #$*@ Question).

Certainly the field distributes promos on occasion - we may be giving out the
Zagat Restaurant Guide to our unit's customers. But as an organized thing...
I think we probably do, but I dunno...

Sorry can't be of more help.

515.2Why not try Public Relations?EMASS::NEWMANWhat, me worry? YOU BET!Thu Apr 21 1988 19:303
    Why not contact the Public Relations Department? According to the
    phone book they can be reached at DTN 251-1555 and are located in
    the Concord, MA CFO facility.
515.3Makes you wonder about $ sometimes!SNOWY::HEDRICKSouth Central Area SupportThu Apr 21 1988 20:3114
RE-.2 (Thanks)

I tried this # and found out we *DON'T* do this kind of thing. The person told
me that I could buy the items and have it charged to my Cost Center. $#%^ I bet
my boss would love this!

Kind of bothers me when I see us spending $ on something stupid, and this seems
maybe a real cheap way of advertisement. These people involved are usually
well-off money-wise, and I would think we would want to be in the minds of this
type of person.

Guess not,

515.4Who's the Digital Promotion Czar?ATLANT::SCHMIDTFri Apr 22 1988 12:139
Glenn:

  It's hard to figure out what rationale Digital uses in its
  overall advertising and promotional strategy. We give DECmates
  (good only for Word Processing -- no flames, please) to the
  Public Television auctions, but did you ever try to find us in
  the Yellow Pages under the "Word Processing" heading?
