505.0. "Computer Virus Attacks Notesfiles" by BOLT::MINOW (Je suis marxiste, tendance Groucho) Fri Apr 01 1988 15:40

I am sorry to inform the audience that a virus program was recently found in
this notesfile. While it does not modify *your* programs or data files, it
acts somewhat like the "Christmas mail" virus that was found last year,
in that it causes other people to send you electronic mail. In the future,
you will discover that you will be receiving increasing amounts of electronic
mail, both from individuals and from "electronic entities" such as mailing
lists and meeting announcement management programs. It appears that the
increase in mail is not linear, but exponential -- although we are still
on the low end of the curve.

I'm not sure whether this phenomena, which I discovered today, is related
to the recent announcement limiting access to DIGITAL.NOTE

Martin.

obviously, one should not reply to this note here, but rather take the
discussion offline with the author of .0----

so send him MAIL to confirm or deny your succuming to this virus:-)

Well, that explains it! And all the time I was wondering
why I was getting "Intro to Servo-Mechanical Operations" type
    of class announcements.

Since I'm now averaging ~30 messages a day, how bad can it get?

And my doctor says a virus will go away in about two weeks...is
that per message or does it multiply exponentially, too...I'm SO
    confused!
