488.0. "Site codes and DTN prefix lists on-line?" by REGENT::POWERS () Mon Mar 07 1988 19:55

Is there an on-line list of the three letter site mail codes?
How about DTN prefixes?
If I look up someone in ELF and see that they work in (say) WNT,
I'd like to be able to SEARCH a file for a clear text expansion
of the code instead of having to find and flip through my phone book.
The goal is the same for DTN prefixes.

See the text file TLE""::UPORT$:SITE.FUN. I had obtained it from the copy on
ANCHOR""::NET$LIBRARY:, but that hasn't been updated for several seasons, while
I've updated my copy almost every time I run across a new site code, or discover
that there is no town name in an existing entry. You can compare them if you
want to see what that means.

Be warned that I am not overly concerned with the precision of the "site
function" column in the table, however, so it will often be incorrect even when
the site code and town name is OK. It would be nice to have a reference to the
data which the folks who make the phone book use, but at least we've got
something in the meantime...

488.2Available in VTX (DTEL and DTN)WELKIN::ADOERFERMon Mar 07 1988 21:5219
    The list of the three letter site mail (MTS) codes are
    in the videotex infobase keyworded DTEL then Choice 3 then choice 5.

    DTN prefixes are in the infobase with the keyword DTN.

    If your system is "properly" set up, from DCL
    VTX (keyword) should take you right to them.

    If the infobases don't have all the SEARCHING you'd like, contact
    the owners of the infobase to suggest they add whatever you need.
    It's not too hard to add limited search functions to VTX, it's just
    the people who have the information are not always sure how the
    users would like to see it. Drop them a line, most will listen.

    If you can't get to VTX on your node or have VTX problems, mail
    to the Corp. VTX Program at IAMOK::CVP.

It has just been called to my attention that the posted filespec is wrong. Use
TLE""::UPORT$:[AMARTIN]SITE.FUN.

    	You can add:

    		FMT	Hartford ACT Farmington, CT, USA

        I would guess that most of the ACT's are not listed.
