294.0. "Lost in the nozone again" by HIGHFI::COHEN (Bowling for Towels) Wed Apr 01 1987 21:32

This may not really belong here, but I'm looking for some help and maybe one
of you has a suggestion. A friend who's relocating to the Maynard area from
Colorado Springs has heard that DEC maintains a list of furnished apartments
in the GMA where employees can live while they're in transition and before they
find a home. No one in Relocation or Personnel I've checked with has heard of
such a list. I'm stuck, does anyone out there know of the existance of such a
list and can you point me in the direction of someone who might be able to help.

Thanks,

Mark

294.1Anybody remember "Rosie's"?TALLIS::SCHMIDTI Use VMS. My Cereal? Raw Bits!Wed Apr 01 1987 21:4310
A long, long time ago, DEC maintained furnished apartments in
the GMA for the DECies who came to training at PK2. "Rosie's"
on Main Street in Maynard was probably the most infamous. Other
folks were put up in Marlboro (across from the Flately apartments),
at the Waterview in Framingham, and elsewhere.

I have no idea if such things are still done, but you might try
  asking Ed Services.

REf. -1. This has nothing to do with the original note, but sometimes
you feel compelled to type! Rosie's is the only place I ever saw
water drip from a water heater and go uphill in the bedroom!

I'm not sure whether DEC had bought or was leasing condo's
in Worcester for the sales trainees who came for training in
Boylston these places were fully furnished.

This might be a possibility if you don't mind sharing
a condo with a bunch of crazed DEC sales trainees away from
home for three weeks straight ;')

DEC also maintains several apartments in Lowell at the
Princeton Park complex. These are for field
personnel who come to Bedford for extended training.
They are usually booked, and I assume students would
get first priority, but you might call Student Services at
DTN 249-4678 and ask. They'd probably rather have it
	occupied than empty.

BTW, when I relocted to Bedford, I tried to get into one
of these, but even as an Ed Services employee, I couldn't
get in since they were full of students at that time.

In addition to the Princeton Park complex in Lowell, Digital has
some kind of relationship with Princeton Place, in Worcester. You
can talk to Judy (she works at Princeton Place) at 754-6777, or
talk to Mary Malcolmson (she works for Relocation at Hudson) at
DTN 225-4612. Tell them I sent you :-).

294.6Rosies! Yes!OVDVAX::ROTHHey, this toothpaste tastes like GLUE!!!Fri Apr 17 1987 12:2112
Yessir, I remember Rosie's quite fondly. While in F/S training (at
PK2- those were the good ole days!) I had no car or DEC-paid housing,
so I got 25$ a day per diem (this was 1977 remember). Rosie wanted
30$/week, so I saved quite a bit of dough during my six weeks there.

Life was easy there, you could grab a "tory's" cheese steak (Tory's
a.k.a. T.C. Lando's deserves a note to itself) and loaf on the couch
watching old movies on the rotten B&W TV with coat hanger antenna.

I have many, many stories about Rosies....

Another Rosie's veteran -- at least I lived on Main St. instead of
in the dumps on Railroad Ave.

And then there's the Volkswagen that was rented from someone's garage
in Acton and passed on from one visitor to another.

One thing I miss from those days is The Wooden Shoe. I was fortunate
in being able to take a baking course from the man who made their
pasteries.
