The FDP program is a program to bring in ONLY new college grads -
a way into the door of Digital. Mind you, these grads are not your
typical run of the mill grads. The same goes for the DISIP program.
Both are run under the same concept, and the same instructor teaches
a lot of the courses. The FDP program is a three year program,
and the DISIP program is a two year program. The programs were started
for a number of reasons, but one of them was the bring fresh new
ideas into the corporation. If you are a NEW college grad, and
are a DECIE at the same time already, they will consider you.
The same as the DISIP program. (DISIP stands for Digital Information
Systems Internship program).
BUT.. you have to meet all of the programs EXTREMELY high standards.
I can tell you what some of them for the DISIP program are, I can't
tell you what the FDP ones are, but I can assure you they are probably
just the same, or very close to it.
The DISIP program recruits in September for the following July class.
So if you are now a senior in college going to graduate in June,
NOW is the time to send your resume. DON'T WAIT!!!
I can tell you what you will be up against. College seniors whose
GPA is 3.85 or higher (They have to weed out the resumes somehow
folks, that is the first cut!). IN the first DISIP graduating
class there were several 4.0 students. I'm not saying that if your
GPA is lower they won't look at you - there were some lower in the
class of 1986, but don't expect to be. The next cut is a 30 minute
interview. IF you make that cut, the next round is a XXX (300?)
word essay on what you can do for the program and the corporation, and
a three hour interview. Those interviews are not easy folks. One student
was asked to draw the entire project life cycle and explain it in
detail. If you make that cut, then you will be given a job offer.
Those are done USUALLY late December, early January, for a start
date of July of the next year. In the class of 1986, there were
500 or so 30 minute interviews given, and 27 offers. The same for
the class of 1987, and 1988 - although I can't attest to their statistics
of how many they started with and total overall GPA.
Some of the other criteria was a BA or BS in MIS, CS, or EE. A
BS or BA in Business Admin was okay, but you had to have over 15
hours of computer science type courses.
Once in the program, the only way out of the program is to graduate.
If you decide to leave the program you must leave DEC. You will
be told where to work for your first two (three for FDP) years of
your life. You have some choice, but the overall choice is left
up to the respective offices. You will have graduate level seminars,
once a week, that are MANDATORY to attend, plus all the homework
involved, plus expected to work 40+ hours a week. It is very hard
work, but EXTREMELY rewarding. I believe the FDP program not only
teaches it courses, but also gives you tests weekly, and I have
been told they receive a masters degree when the graduate (correct
me anyone if I'm wrong). The DISIP program does not insist, but
STRONGLY encourages you to be enrolled in a Masters Degree program.
If you would like more information, you can send me mail, and when
I have the time, I will answer then, or refer you to someone who
can. NO, I am not a recruiter for the program, but a member of
the DISIP graduating class of 1986. Guess that makes me me an alumnus
now 8-).
If you are a supervisor, or staff member in charge of headcount,
the programs are always looking for additional headcount. If you
need a TA, BSA, or PA, you can contact Charlene Plotkin at DAMSEL::CHAR
for more information (Sorry - had to get that plug in!!!).
Hope this helps .0 a little more. You as a DECie now do have a chance
to get into a program of this caliber, but you must be graduating
with a BA, BS, or MA, or MS this June of 1987. Good luck to all
who try, I would not have wanted to go any other way!
