102.0. "DECWORLD (the newsletter) for customers?" by THEBAY::MTHOMAS (Matt Thomas) Wed Apr 09 1986 18:08

I was in the office a while ago and saw something that bugged me.
One of the sales secretaries was putting mailing labels on issues of
DECWORLD so they could be sent to customers. I don't know about
    you, but that irritated me.

DECWORLD is a monthly newsletter sent to Digital employees with
info about Digital. I don't think it should be sent to customers.
Sometimes it includes marketing information and other internal-only
information. But nowhere in it is it said to be for internal use
    only.

    Comments?

102.1DECworld is for everybody...JAWS::MHARRISMacWed Apr 09 1986 18:3712
The DECworld newsletter is not intended as an "Internal Use Only"
publication. Otherwise, it would not be distributed by the
U.S. Postal Service to employees AND their families (some members
of which, perhaps, work for competitors). If the presence of
sensitive marketing, organizational or strategic information is
a concern, it should be expressed to the editors or publisher.

Corporate Employee Communications is a department within Corporate
Personnel, and its publications exist under rather strict management
    supervision.

102.2DECworld isn't for customersNY1MM::SWEENEYPat SweeneyThu Apr 10 1986 01:0318
If we have a message to send current customers or prospective customers
it had better be focused and not just what "happenned to be lying
    around".

The correct item to send to current customers and prospective customers
    is INSIGHT.

DECWORLD is trying to create an awareness of Digital as a manufacturing
organization to the service people and vice versa, to give biographies
of new vice presidents, and so on.

I'm a customer of Coca Cola and I really don't care to know if their
employee benefits package has been expanded or whatever, know what
    I mean?

And just because we don't mark something "INTERNAL USE" doesn't mean
handing it over to customers makes it "the right thing".

Shouldn't all employees at least get their own copy ? Even in Europe?

I use to get my own but it has been *years* since I havn't seen any
around. I inquired to personnel and I was told that only a few managers
    did get it.

If somebody knows an address where I could subscribe...

In the U.S. the Employee Master File is used for addresses. If
your address is incorrect, please see your Personnel representative.
In G.I.A. copies are bulk shipped to all facilities for local
distribution. European lists and procedures are being updated and
    revised.
