39.1Canasta Stars DatabaseKERNEL::JAMESAlan James CSC BasingstokeFri May 12 1989 23:108
    		The CANASTA Stars Database has over 130 entries of bugcheck
	symptoms. These can be accessed by :-

	$ define stars$database stars$:[local_canasta] (or add it to existing
	$ strs		                                         databases)

39.2DSAERR for VMS 5.2KERNEL::JAMESAlan James CSC BasingstokeWed May 17 1989 23:534
    		There is a new version of DSAERR in RDC$COMMON. It is
    	version V3.04 and will hack VMS 5.2 errorlogs.

    	Alan.
39.3DSAERR / VMS V5.2KERNEL::JAMESAlan James CSC BasingstokeTue May 30 1989 19:0511
		    DSAERR V3.04 is now in RDC$COMMON. It runs on all
	errorlog files up to and including VMS V5.2.
		    A shortened version is also available with all the
	 "bells and whistles" removed - it's called DSA304A.
		    These latest versions of DSAERR.EXE expect VMS V5
	libraries. This means that if you downline load DSAERR.EXE V3.04
	to a V5 system all will be ok. Downline loading to a V4 system
	will cause problems. To overcome this problem downline load the
	.obj file instead of the exe file and link it on the customer's
	site (link dsaerr.obj [link dsa304A.obj])
39.4NEW DTKERNEL::JAMESAlan James CSC BasingstokeSat Sep 02 1989 15:3422
    		There is a trial version of DT now available. All the main
	tools should be accessable from this release, including some that
	Valbonne RDC have given us.

		To start the new menu do :-

			$ @$44$DUS21:[TOOLS]login.tools
			$ D (or 'F' for the fast version)

		The new DT has the following enhancements :-

	  1. Selection of a tool number in Fast Mode will invoke that tool.

	  2. After login.tools is invoked, any of the tools shown on the DT
	     screen can be run just by typing the tool name at the '$' prompt.

	  3. The accounting package has been enhanced.

	  4. After a tool has been run the logical 'tool$file_spec' will point
	     to the files used by the tool.

39.5LATEST ON TOOLS - MAY90BEEZER::JAMESAlan James CSC BasingstokeFri May 18 1990 20:2858
    								18-MAY-1990
	Below is the latest on Diagnosis Tools.

	Regards,

	Alan.

			      ----== DECTREE ==----

	DECTREE allows a user to build decision trees and compile them
	directly into executable code.

	The process has been developed for Support Centre Personnel, to
	allow us to create our own Programs without programming knowledge.
	The graphical interface makes creating TREE's quite entertaining.

			       ----== CANASTA ==----

	The Crash Analysis Trouble Shooting Assistant is now entering a
	phase where it will run in Automatic Mode. We should be able to
	run it in July/August when we upgrade to VMS 5.3, or sooner if the
	AIAG produce a version suitable for a VMS 5.1 system.

			         ----== MAX ==----

	MAX Scripts will replace our Ledit Scripts. They are being
	developed in Colorado and should be available to us in the next
	few weeks. MAX will allow us to automatically invoke a series of
	commands on a customers site and have the returned data interpreted
        automatically.

			         ----== SDD ==----

	VAXSIMPLUS installations are being to climb. Out of hours you will
	see two types of calls, Service or Usage. Usage calls, such as
	installation problems, will be done on 'best efforts'. Service calls
	involve looking up VAXSIMPLUS Event Codes, the information on how to
	do this is in folder 8806 in the library, as well as in csguk_systems
	notes/mail.

	An enhancement to SDD is ISDS. This involves a Site Service Processor
	(SSP) on the customer's site and a Site Service Processor Concentrator
	(SSPC) at the Support Centre. ISDS works in a similar manner to
	VAXSIMPLUS except that most of the work is done in the SSP, and if
	a threshold is triggered an RSDS call is automatically opened for
	this customer, CCD are notified on their screens that there is a
	call ready to be passed to Diagnosis. ISDS will be implemented on
	VAX9000 systems.

39.6a list of tools please.KERNEL::ROBBWed Feb 23 1994 17:3095
    We along with everyone else in the building, have been asked to provide
    pointers to all the tools we use.

    I have included the request below and will be advising of all the tools
    that I can think of.

    So that none are missed, can you please add to the list any that you
    don't see already included.

    TO: See Below

    Subject: Review of local Service Delivery tools on KERNEL

    Introduction :

            Currently there are a vast number of tools residing on the
    KERNEL
            Cluster in various Directories/Sub-Directories that appear not
    to
            be managed and are not registered with either Information
    Services

            or Operations Support.

    Objectives :

            To provide a process for registering local tools that need to
    be
            executed on KERNEL.

            To provide a standard supported environment on KERNEL from
    which
            local tools can be executed.

    What we need from you :

            A list of all tools on KERNEL that are used by people within
    your
            Group. This list should be include the following information

                    1. Tool name

                    2. Description of what the tool does

                    3. How the tool is invoked

                    4. Where the tool resides (if known)

            Failure to notify us of any local tool on KERNEL will result in
            its removal.

    Action Plan :

            1. Gather and return information about tools run on KERNEL to
               Justin Mitchell @UVO.

               Action : CSC Unit Managers
            2. Analyse information returned and where necessary clarify
    with
               users.

               Action : U.K. Operations Support
               End Date : 14th March 1994

            3. Propose a solution to CSC Unit Managers.

               Action : U.K. Operations Support
               End Date : 21st March 1994

            4. Solution accepted, build implementation plan.

               Action : U.K. Operations Support
               End Date : 4th April 1994

            5. Implement solution.

               Action : U.K. Operations Support
               End Date : 2nd May 1994

    Subject: tools

            Ken,

            From a VAX9000 point of view we have four tools, ASA, PHBI, SDU
            and AQUASNAP

            1) ASA, AQUARIUS SNAPSHOT ANALYSER

               ASA is used to analyse VAX9000 snapshots and compares the
               snapshot.dat file from the system with a number of known
               signature files, providing a recommendation of possible
               causes, FRU's or patches.

               to invoke it type

               @RSDS$DISK:[BASINGSTOKE.9000.ASA.EXE]M_ASA.COM

            2) RHBI, Restart History Buffer Interpolator

               RHBI unpacks the PC history buffer file from a VAX9000 and

               allows it to be displayed, printed or matched to a crash
               dump. In the "matched" mode, all the pc's are symbolised.

               to invoke it type

               R DISK$APD1:[BASINGSTOKE.9000]PHBI.EXE

            3) SDU, Snapshot Display Utility

               SDU is a display utility that allows you examine individual
               signals or groups of signals within a VAX9000 snapshot

               to invoke it type

               @DISK$APD1:[BASINGSTOKE.9000.SNAP]SDU.COM

            4) AQUASNAP

               AQUASNAP is a CHRIS LOANE special that allows some parts of
    a
               VAX9000 snapshot not visible to SDU to be displayed.

               to invoke it type

               R DISK$APD1:[BASINGSTOKE.9000.TRAINING]AQUASNAP.EXE
