168.0. "Phone Hunt Groups" by KERNEL::AYLING () Fri Feb 11 1994 17:40

Chaps,

We as a group currently have four hunt group numbers on all or some of our
phones, namely:
		3020 the multi-ring on all phones for out-of-hours (Hotline)
		8023 Systems calls hunt group (whole group on it)
		8034 Bugchecks hunt group (the origional "downstairs" group)
		8036 9000's hunt group. (9000 TRAINED)

I have a need to allocate my phone into the First Aid multi-ring group, which
raised the question "which button should I use ?".
So I thought ,what do we NEED our phones to be setup for as a group, as I believe
we all take SYSTEMS CALLS, and BUGCHECKS now we are all together. Do we need to
segregate the calls to these hunt numbers or would something else be better.

Perhaps this should be an item for the CIG.

But this seems to be the appropriate place for initial discussion, so
comments please.

Mike.

    	good point Mike.

    	If we are to make a move towards VMS in the near future,
    	then perhaps that would also be a suitable time to rationalize
    	the hunt nos.

    	perhaps we should have 3 hunt lines: HW, VMS, P1

    	lots of :-)

    Is the "Ring all phones OOH" number 3020 a help or a nuisance ???.

    It sometimes gets used during the day, maybe by someone who cannot
    get any other response, or sometimes just because "it is most likely
    to be answered".

    It is handy to be able to use it as an alternative dial out line,
    especially if you are waiting for a call on your direct line.

    What does the team think ????

    I agree with previous replies, we should rationalise our hunt group
    numbers, now that everyone can do 9000 & Bugcheck calls. Also we need
    to be have some link with VMS included.

168.3How many queues/hunts do we wantKERNEL::BLANDNorman Bland 833 3797 CSC, BasingstokeMon Feb 14 1994 14:0516
    My 2 cents worth.

    I find the x3020 a nuisance (OOH as well). If I miss a call OOH because
    I've gone off to the loo or whatever, if it is important enough I'm
    sure the phone will ring again. If I'm likely to be away from my phone
    for more than a few minutes OOH, then I let CCD know.

    As for rationalising our hunt numbers, what is wrong with one called
    SYSTEMS. Yes, OK stop bombarding me with insults - why not two hunt
    numbers one for hardware and one for software related calls for the
    SYSTEMS GROUP. The name is not too important as long as it is
    meaningful; how about.

                               SYS_SW & SYS_HW

Since we do not do Unix or DOS or NT systems, I feel that :-

                               SYS_SW & SYS_HW
should be translated as:
                               VMS    & VMS_HW

my 2p worth... :-)

    	I've changed my views on this. I think the simpler things
    	are the better.

    	We can all do everything in the "systems" area now so why
    	not just the ONE hunt no?

    	call it what you like, SYS or SYSTEMS.

    	Then it does not matter which group we are aligned to or which
    	queue our calls are in. All our (in the future) live calls would
    	come through on our hunt no., response would put the call in
    	whichever queue router tells them to do. There does'nt have to
    	be a close relationship between the hunt no NAME and the nice
    	QUEUE.

168.6One hunt line now.KERNEL::ADAMSBrian Adams CSC-Viables '833-3026Thu Apr 07 1994 12:1511

    	From the start of April, the phones and Router have been changed,
    	so that all calls use the one hunt line;

    			8023

    	OOH, 3020 will still show on Router, as the task of changing that
    	involves a lot of work, and some changes may be made by the CIG
    	anyway, so we don't want to duplicate work unnecessarily.
