COURSE: DECIDING IN A CHANGING ENVIRONMENT - EY-J008E
DATE: 19/21 NOVEMBER 1991 3-DAYS
LOCATION: GENEVA AREA, SWITZERLAND
INTRODUCTION:
People in business make decisions, most of the time good decisions. Why
should they review their decision making process again? The reason is simple :
in a world of open and fierce competition, decision making is getting more
difficult.
The 1990's are challenging times. The technology offers new opportunities
that are threatening the business "establishment". The markets are wide open
to all those who understand and respond best to the customers' expectations.
New entrants upset the status quo by changing the rules of the business game.
In this context, decisions must be properly targeted, daring and innovative,
effectively and promptly implemented. Unfortunately, the convential decision
making skills produce only convential results. The decisions which appeared
to be good in the meeting room, either are not implemented, or do not prove as
effective as they seemed to be.
To cope with this changing environment, one must approach decision making with
a different mind set. First, one should focus on the output, on the external
impact of the decision. Secondly, it is necessary to consider the social
environment of the decision, the cultural context in which it exists.
Thirdly, one must anticipate what is required for other people - tens, maybe
thousands of people - to implement effectively the decision and achieve the
aimed results.
This training seminar, based on real-life business incidents, is designed to
offer the participants a set of tools and techniques, as well as a process for
integrating the different dimensions and steps of decision making in an
environment of turbulence and rapid change.
PREREQUISITES:
None
TARGET AUDIENCE:
This seminar is designed for professionals and managers responsible for
planning or making decisions with significant business and organisational
impact. It is also beneficial for experienced professionals/managers who are
involved in task forces or problem solving teams.

COURSE: CONSULTANT DEVELOPMENT CENTRE (CDC) - EY-G053E
DATE: 21/23 JANUARY 1992
LOCATION: MONTREUX, SWITZERLAND
PURPOSE:
The Consultant Development Centre is an effective process designed to identify
and strengthen consulting capability. The company is putting a major focus on
the development of consulting as one of the front-line business opportunities
and a significant area of growth.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
Primarily aimed at aspiring consultants and consultants relatively new in the
role. More experienced consultants may wish to take advantage of the event,
particularly where an expert objective assessment and development feedback is
required.
COURSE OVERVIEW:
Digital Management has made a firm commitment to the strengthening of
consultancy capability in order to enhance Digital's response to the current
business environment.
Within the context of consultancy development the Consultant Development Centre
is one of the People Development Processes (PDP) which offers participants and
their managers an opportunity to assess participants' behavioural skills
against a standard consultant behavioural profile.
Participants take part in a number of activities/tasks designed to measure the
skills identified as essential for consultancy. Job specific simulations are
assessed, using a behavioural methodology which ensures accurate evalution and
objectivity. Following the event, the trained assessor provides feedback to
the manager and the participant who together establish the participant's
development plan.
IDP
The IDP Workbook is an important prerequisite to the Development Centre for
participants and their managers. By using situational data contained in the
identification of Development Potential Workbook managers will be able to
identify those situations which are most relevant to employees' development
needs. The IDP process is compatible with and complementary to the Job
Planning and Review (JP&R) procedure.

PHASE 2 & 3 : SEE DETAILS BELOW
PHASE 4 : 22/24 JANUARY 1992 3-DAYS
LOCATION: PHASES 1 & 4: MAASTRICHT, NETHERLANDS
INTRODUCTION:
The development of Europe has provided an enormous impetus for the increase in
scale of not only the economies of European countries, but also of public
administrations at various levels. Internationalization - even globalization
are keywords within a process which will bring public administration
organization, at the same time lifting all border constraints.
Sectoral and inter-sectoral communication and informatization are obviously
critical success factors within this process; this means communication with
partners from various countries and sectors, including the private sector. In
this way, public administrations are no longer island but are obliged to adapt
themselves to the communication world of others.
Being one of the most important IT suppliers in europe for the public sector,
Digital will be expected to play a major role in assisting public
administration to participate in this communication arena, not only at the
technological level,, but also at the strategic level.
This STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT SEMINAR - PUBLIC SECTOR designed uniquely for
Digital by the European Institute of Public Administration (EIPA) will provide
participants with the opportunity to focus on Digital's major future role by
considering the following areas:
1. The politico-economic and general development of Europe
2. The changing face of public administration
3. Digitals response to the general internationalization process
4. The public administration market
The European Institute of Public Administration was founded in 1981, to provide
support for public policy and management development in the European Community
by offering continuing education to top and senior public servants. It
ensures that the most recent knowledge and expertise on European public
policy-making and on public management is concentrated and made available to
those who are working daily in Europe's complex and ever changing environment.
This programme is designed to assist participants in developing optimal
partnerships with public administration clients as a basis for an effective and
continued business relationship.
The follow-up (Phase 4) to this five-day seminar (27-31 October 1991) will be
an 'internationalization project' within participants' own countries of origin.
The dates for this Phase is 22/24 January 1992.
PREREQUISITES:

working as a team or individuals working very close together with those
participants working as a team in the Public Sector :

NOTES ON COMPILATION OF UCA
o The normal lead time from announcement to a course is a munimum of 8 weeks
by which time all course resources are fixed.
o To accommodate the 8 week lead time it may be necessary to provisionally
announce "Time Critical" courses (that is, those courses which need to
go ahead on or by a fixed date but which do not have all the resources
fixed at the 8 week point). In this case a further confirmed announcement
will be inside the 8 week window.
o The UCA periodically contains information about scheduled courses with
vacant slots. These may occur inside the 8 week window.
o Some pilot courses, especially those with instructors from the US and
those run by European developers, may occur inside the 8 week window

Application Programming course which immediately
follows this Technical Seminar on December 10-12 *******
BUSINESS ADVANTAGE:
This seminar introduces the features and components of the OSF Distributed
Computing Environment (DCE). DCE is a set of tools and techniques that
application developers can use to distribute the acomponents of an application
across a network of potentially heterogeneous computer systems. Working in
the DCE, application developers can create applications that ignore hardware
and operating system boundaries and make full use of networked resources. The
benefits of these attributes are increased resource allocation, information
sharing capability resulting in reduced costs.
PREREQUISITES:
In order to benefit from this seminar, participants should be familiar with
basic programming concepts and terminology.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
Application developers, Project leaders, Network Planners, MIS Managers,
Data Centre Managers, Systems Managers
COURSE OBJECTIVES:

NOTES ON COMPILATION OF UCA
o The normal lead time from announcement to a course is a munimum of 8 weeks
by which time all course resources are fixed.
o To accommodate the 8 week lead time it may be necessary to provisionally
announce "Time Critical" courses (that is, those courses which need to
go ahead on or by a fixed date but which do not have all the resources
fixed at the 8 week point). In this case a further confirmed announcement
will be inside the 8 week window.
o The UCA periodically contains information about scheduled courses with
vacant slots. These may occur inside the 8 week window.
o Some pilot courses, especially those with instructors from the US and
those run by European developers, may occur inside the 8 week window
because of business commitments.
o Those events which are being run by groups for themselves but administered
by Highfield on behalf of the groups may occur inside the 8 week window.
