54.0. "The NEW Reception area" by KERNEL::PETTET (Norm Pettet CSC Basingstoke) Thu Jul 20 1989 11:50

	With the thousands of pounds spent of the refurbishment of the
reception area you would have thought they could have either installed a
carousel door or a dedicated in/out door arrangement. Instead we have a plain
door with a "Mecano" plate mechanism screwed on top and no window. Ultimately a
serious accident WILL occur so perhaps facilities had better make sure the
insurance premiums are paid up.

    Apart from the actual "structural" changes, the standard of
    wall-papering looks abysmal, with lumps/bumps/creases etc. is
    appalling.

    As the first area of the CSC that customers will see on any visit,
    it definitely looks cheap and nasty. If this is the final pass of
    the refurbishment of reception, then one can only hope that the
    contractors account has yet to be paid.

54.2is it finished then..??KERNEL::HUTCHINGSShot to BytesFri Jul 21 1989 13:5511
    Must admit I haven't paid a lot of attention to the decor in reception
    (perhaps this in itself is a reflection of the quality..??)
    But I do think that the "Meccano" doors leave a bit to be desired
    Perhaps they are temporary until new ones with windows are obtained..??

    I'm sure I heard somewhere that the area is not finished yet....

    or was I dreaming...??

54.3Green light means don't goKERNEL::MORRISWhich universe did you dial?Fri Aug 11 1989 16:1820
    Hint...

    The doors without windows are a bit of a menace aren't they? But
    we've been managing that way with the doors into toilets for some
    time now.

    One tip that you might find helpful is: "Before you stand in front
    of the door when on the Reception side, watch the card reader box
    to see if the green light goes on". The theory behind this is that
    if you are in Reception, you are the one going to get bashed by
    the door - so if you watch the swipe reader, and it goes green,
    stand back 'cos someboddy is coming through from the other side.

    Now, with that as a guide to safe passage through doorways without
    windows, should we ask Facilities to fit swipe reader card locks
    on the toilets? ;-)
