Release 35 will have the last distribution of TU58 cassettes. If the 11/750
needs any console code or microcode changed in the future (ie: I am hearing
CMT104 will be changing), it will be distributed on a TU58 with a unique part
number different then the part numbers archived at Release 35's version.

********************************************************************************
The following two guides went through a rewrite and will be re-released in
Release 35. They will also have a new part number, which needs to be reflected
in the European price books. (EUROPE: please make note of this.)

The VAX Index (EVNDX) will continue to ship on media. It has, however, been
broken into two parts. EVNDX1.SEQ is the front part of the VAX Index (break-

back half of the VAX Index (breakdown of media and files).

********************************************************************************
The Diagnostic Update Configuration Tool (DUCT) contains a MESSAGE sections
that points to all the diagnostics' problems and corrections in a given release.

Subj:	Acronym for the VAX Diagnostic Supervisor

	The official acronym for the VAX Diagnostic Supervisor
	is being changed from VDS to VAX/DS. Please start
	using the new acronym, VAX/DS, now.

	We decided to change the acronym for 2 reasons: VMS
	refers to our product as DS rather than VDS and
	VDS is already a registered trademark (outside this
	industry).

	Thanks,

      Appended 11/780 End-of-Life Retirement Plan)

Hi Folks,

Most of you do not normally receive our Cutoff/Signoff Memos concerning our
evaluation process. However, this memo has been distributed to the EVNDX
distribution list because there is a lot happening in Release 37 concerning
diagnostic support. You may find some useful information in the following
memo.

In particular, there are some pointers here to directories that have moved;
please make a note of these changes for your future needs.

regards,
Joan

SUB: VAX DIAGNOSTIC RELEASE 37 CUTOFF MEETING MEMO
      ---------------------------------------------

Compliance with DEC STD 178-6 :
-------------------------------
Beginning with Release 37, our diagnostics will comply with DEC STD 178-6.
Bob Bergazzi distributed the final implementation plan for this labeling
project to the EVNDX distribution list 14-JUN-1989.

Release 37 newly submitted and existing resubmitted diagnostics contain a
source code change to comply. Diagnostics from previous releases, which
weren't resubmitted into Release 37 (from ARCHIVE), have been patched for
partial compliance.

As we approach Signoff date, we will have a good idea of how many pieces
of our media we'll be updating to distribute our new Release 37 submissions.
In that process of updating media for Release 37, many patched files from
ARCHIVE will get distributed because they reside on media along with the
Release 37 files being released. We could find that we have so few pieces
not being updated for Release 37 submissions, that we decide to redistribute
these pieces too for the sole purpose of getting these patched files out
now rather than waiting until a future submission causes the piece to be
updated.

So, Release 37 could turn out to be a COMPLETE release of all our existing
media/kits. There is no final decision on this strategy; we'll keep you
informed.

No Evaluations for Retiring VAX 11/780-family CPUs :
----------------------------------------------------
During the evaluation cycle this release, evaluators need not test any of
the EV* diags on 11/780, 11/782, and 11/785 CPUs. We will be retiring our
ES*, ET* and EV* diags that support ONLY retired CPUs to our NONSUPPORTED
area. We will also be retiring 780/785 small media (RX01s).

Signoff "Drop Dead" Date :
--------------------------
Please note that commencing with Release 37, Signoff is now a "drop dead"
date. This means there will be no open items after the meeting. The Signoff
Date for Release 37 is 07-AUG-1989. Our VAX quarterly release schedule is
at YODA::RELD$0:[SUBMIT]SCHEDULE.VAX_FY90 for anyone interested.

Submission Areas Moved :
------------------------
Submittors and Evaluators, please note that the Submission areas have been
moved. The directory naming structure remains the same, but submissions are
now being made to disk 0 rather than disk 1 -- YODA::RELD$0:[37.name.name]

Release Forms from YODA::RELD$0:[SUBMIT] :
------------------------------------------
Evaluators must send any rejection forms (YODA::RELD$0:[SUBMIT]REJECTION.FRM)
to 1) the Submitting Engineer, 2) the Maintainer, and 3) YODA::RELEASE a
minimum of (3) days prior to Signoff.

Delivery of rejection forms via ENET mail (3) days prior to Signoff gives the
Submitting Eng./Maintainer ample time to deliver a waiver to Release. (see
YODA::RELD$0:[SUBMIT]WAIVER.FRM). Waivers must contain an ink signature (not
typed). For your convenience, waivers can be FAXed to me at DTN 247-2839.

Please note that the above forms are also now on disk 0 rather than disk 1.

If a debate occurs between the Submitting group and the Evaluator over signoff,
please refer to the same area (RELD$0:[SUBMIT]) for the SIGN_BY.DEFAULT policy.

Online dumps of the Field Service Magtape set have moved :
----------------------------------------------------------
These areas also are no longer on disk 1. Please see these areas:

                          REL # ---> tape 1 contains Generic diags.
                                         tape 2 contains VAX 82XX/83XX-specific
                                                & VAX 85XX/87/88XX-specific
                                         tape 3 contains VAX 11/78X-specific
                                                & VAX 86XX-specific

There was some last minute restructuring of tapes 2 and 3 in Release 36 because
tape 2 overflowed. So, please notice that VENUS diags (86XX) are now on tape
3.

Polarstar "Separate" Release Cycle (VAX 8820/30/40) :
-----------------------------------------------------
Polarstar continues to release OUTSIDE the quarterly release cycle. The last
Polarstar release was their V6.0 release on 12-DEC-88. V7.0 of their console
is expected to be released (also separately) soon--likely Sep/Oct 1989.

Release 37 Submissions:
-----------------------
Many programs have been submitted for evaluation for Release 37. The Diag
Supervisor is at Rev. 12.01; and there are new Rev. 5.2 VMB.EXE & BOOT58.EXE
files. There will be a late submission for Scorpio of the KA00* patch file
for release under waiver.

New Devices/Diags to Support:  Two new diags. (EVMEA-lvl 2R & EVMEB-lvl 3)
support the new TM32 Gapless Tape Subsystem, a CSS product.

Comment on Rigel/Calypso/Hyperion: Programs for these CPUs are in this
quarterly release cycle. ER is the code for RIGEL, and EL is the code for
CALYPSO/HYPERION below.

SUB:  VAX DIAGNOSTIC NEWS  and
      VAX Diagnostic Release 37 Signoff Meeting Memo (attached)

The Release 37 Signoff Memo is attached, but first some followup to the
memo sent a month ago on things happening concerning diagnostics.

Compliance with DEC STD 178-6 :
-----------------------------
After going through the exercise to identify how many pieces of media were
not being updated for Release 37 submissions, we found that only ten RX50s
were not being updated. Since this would be a minimal impact on the SSB
(Software Supply Business-formerly SDC), we have added these RX50s to
Release 37. So, Release 37 is a milestone for all of our Level 2, 2R,
and 3 diagnostic programs--all are being released. Programs listed on the
attached Signoff Memo are in full compliance with DEC STD 178-6, and all
others have been patched for partial compliance.

                                  NOTE:

In the memo I sent a month ago, I used a poor choice of words in saying
that this release could turn out to be "a complete release of all our
media/kits"--I should have said a complete release of all our L2/2R/3
diagnostics, because not all our media contains files affected by this
labeling project. I want to correct the impression I gave you that you
would be getting "complete" kits if you're signed up for update kits.

VAX 11/780-family CPU Diags Have Been Retired :
---------------------------------------------
All our ES*, ET*, and EV* diags that "solely" supported the VAX 11/780,782,
and 785 have been removed from all our large media in Release 37. Also,
all the RX01s (and kits) which supported these systems have been retired,
and fiche has been frozen at the last released rev. for each program. So,
Release 36 was the last distribution of diags, media, kits, and fiche which
supported these systems.

Polarstar "Separate" Release Cycle (VAX 8820/30/40) :
---------------------------------------------------
Since the previous memo, Polarstar has slipped its schedule. A new release
date has not yet been negotiated with the SSB, but it is anticipated their
"separate" release will happen in November.

Nautilus News :
-------------
In Release 37, there are a couple of new things to support Nautilus.

MEMCHECK - MEMCHECK is a new tool primarily for Digital Sales Reps. to use.
It may also be helpful to Field Service reps. This tool will check Nautilus
and Skipjack (and eventually Polarstar) systems to determine how thoroughly
memory is interleaved, and thus help prevent the sale of memory upgrades
which diminish performance.

Distribution to Field Service and internal Mfg. personnel - Look for the
saveset MEMCHECK001.A on BB-T988R-YE FLD SVC UPD TAPE #37 PRT 2-3 in kits:
00-ZE950-CW.37 or 00-ZE999-HM.37 NOTE: This saveset is restricted to
INTERNAL USE ONLY. It should never be given to a customer or left at a
customer site.

Sales Reps. will be supported via an upcoming SALES UPDATE article and the
placement of the saveset in their toolshed (Ken Valcourt, the Submitting
Engineer, is working with the approriate Sales contacts to accomplish this).

SAIP INFORMATION PKG - Microdiagnostic .TXT files will be released on RX50s
(like getting fiche on an RX50). The seven RX50s below house these .TXT
files (which are also restricted to INTERNAL USE ONLY).

SUB: VAX DIAGNOSTIC RELEASE 37 SIGNOFF MEETING MEMO
      ----------------------------------------------

Release 37 Submissions:
-----------------------
Thank you all for you efforts this release to adhere to the Schedule Dates.

The programs listed in the following pages are what will be released from the
SSB in mid-October. Maintainers and Submittors should note any of these they
own marked "waivered". You should know the reason your program was rejected
by the evaluators. If you cannot fix the code and resubmit for Release 38
(Cutoff Date 09-OCT-1989), then you must re-waiver the program for Release 38
(and each release until the ECO gets signed off or until you re-submit a newer
version). Waivers are due by the Signoff Meeting. Any programs not signed
off or not waivered (or re-waivered), will be removed from media distribution
until corrective action is taken.

Items marked below as "SigByDef" mean you can consider your program signed.
When an evaluator does no evaluation (does not sign off or reject), you are
not required to do a waiver because you have fulfilled your obligations to
submit on time (by the Cutoff Date). Maintainers and Submittors need not
track these items to future releases--once signed by default, the matter is
closed for that rev. of the program.
       -------------
Asterisked items mean fiche will be available.

Hi All,

And Happy New Year!

First about Polarstar:  (VAX 8820/8830/8840)
----------------------
As you may already know, Polarstar had a separate release on 13-NOV of their
Version 7 console. What you don't know is that fiche to support that release
was prepared at the same time Release 38 fiche was being done. Therefore,
the fiche should be available by mid-January.

Release 38:
-----------
The 3-set Field Service Magtapes (known as VAXPAX to many of you) have been
dumped online for anyone who wants them now (FRS is 15-JAN). See these
directories:

YODA::RELD$0:[COMPARE.FSUPD.38.TAPE_1]   Generic files

27.7VAXPAX release 39 + other infoKERNEL::BLANDtoward 2000 ...Sun Mar 18 1990 04:4793
Hi All,

We had a smaller release this time and we've finished quite early. The 3-set
Field Service magtapes have been dumped online. See the following for a
snapshot of what Release 39 will contain. FRS is scheduled for 16-APR-90.

     YODA::RELD$0:[COMPARE.FSUPD.39.TAPE_1]   generics
                                   .TAPE_2]   8XXX and 6XXX VAX-specific files
                                   .TAPE_3]   8600/8650-specific files

Below follows a refresher on where our directories are on YODA for ARCHIVED,
NONSUPPORTED, and newly SUBMITTED files.

SYS$RELEASE, the old submission area (or RELD$0:[SUBMIT]) has been replaced with
a new directory naming scheme--the new scheme has no logical associated with it.
Directories are created in a manner as the examples below:

SUBMISSION AREAS:
----------------
     RELD$0:[release#.diagname.diagname]
                  (generics are handled like this format)
                             Examples:   RELD$0:[32.EVGAA.EVGAA]
                                         RELD$0:[32.CIE081.CIE081]
                                         RELD$0:[32.ESCCA.ESCCA]

     or

     RELD$0:[release#.family.productname]
                  (VENUS and NAUT have so many numerous files that they are
                   first grouped together, then filed by diagname)
                             Examples:   RELD$0:[32.VENUS.CSM086]
                                         RELD$0:[33.NAUT.EZKAA]

     or

     RELD$0:[release#.Supervisor_Version#.productname]
                  (The Diag. Supervisor is first grouped by its rev. number,
                   then separated out by each product name. Many, many of
                   the supervisor files are COMMON to all supers, and are
                   placed in a COMMON directory, rather than submitted 6
                   times for each supervisor)
                             Examples:   RELD$0:[32.DS1011.EBSAA]
                                         RELD$0:[32.DS1011.ENSAA]
                                         RELD$0:[32.DS1011.COMMON]

Now, hopefully you have an understanding of the naming structure we use.
Below are some more examples of some of our other areas. NOTE: be wary
of taking files from any SUBMISSIONS area (the above areas) because they
may not be the final files that get released.

==============================================================================
SYS$ARCHIVE:
-----------
Our currently released files are stored in SYS$ARCHIVE (replaces the old
SYS$SOURCE). The naming structure is basically the same, if you would rather
direct access to a directory instead of waiting for a long search through
SYS$ARCHIVE,

     YODA::SYS$ARCHIVE:EVGAA.EXE (would take a long time)

This would provide quicker access:

     YODA::RELD$0:[ARCHIVE.EVGAA.EVGAA]
     YODA::RELD$0:[ARCHIVE.VENUS.CSM086]
     YODA::RELD$0:[ARCHIVE.DS1010.ESSAA]

     etc.

===========================================================================
RETIRED DIAGNOSTICS & RETIRED CPU FILES:
---------------------------------------
Any diagnostics for retired CPUs are stored in our NONSUPPORTED areas. The
naming schemes are the same--just substitute NONSUPPORTED for ARCHIVE.

For example:

     YODA::RELD$0:[NONSUPPORTED.EVTCA.EVTCA]

==========================================================================
RELEASE AIDS:
------------
Lastly, our old [SUBMIT] area is now used to store release tools. See the
directory below for help files on the release process.

     YODA::RELD$0:[SUBMIT]

Subj:	VAXPAX magtapes (Field Service magtapes) are available online YODA

Hi All,

The Field Service Tapes have been dumped online for Release 41. See:

     YODA::RELD$0:[COMPARE.FSUPD.41.TAPE_1]   generic files (EVs)
                                   .TAPE_2]   VAXBI files (82XX/83XX,
                                                85XX/8700/88XX, & 6XXX)
                                   .TAPE_3]   VAX 86XX

These tapes contain the last regularly schedule updates for Nautilus (files
are on Tape_2) and VENUS (Tape_3). Next release, we'll be back down to two
tapes again since Tape_3 contains only the VENUS files.

                                   NOTE:

If you did not receive this mail directly from Joan Bowring, you may not
be registered with us for proxy access to YODA. You will not be able to
access the above files until you are registered. Send mail to YODA::BOWRING
to register.

REMINDER:
---------
The VAX DIAGNOSTIC SUPERVISOR USER'S GUIDE and the VAX DIAGNOSTIC DESIGN
GUIDE are available online YODA. They were updated a year ago or so, but
several folks have inquired about these docs recently. See:

     YODA::RELD$0:[DOCUMENTS.DOCUMENTS]AAFK66ATE.   and    AAFK67ATE.

There are no extensions to those filenames. You'll need PROXY access for
these too.

And speaking of proxy access...

I recently cleaned up the list. All those who did not re-register, were
removed from the list. If you still need access, and find you don't have
it now, just send me mail to get back on the list.

POLARSTAR:
----------
Polarstar, which has been releasing separately outside of the quarterly
release cycle, recently had it's last regularly scheduled release. The
files associated with that release are available at:

     YODA::RELD$0:[ARCHIVE.PSTAR...]

ARIDUS/AQUARIUS:
----------------
The VAX9000 family is still releasing separately through the Engineering
Development group at this time. We've had inquiries from people looking for
these files on YODA. Unfortunately, these files won't be available online
YODA until the engineering group does a submission and release thru us.

regards,
Joan

Subj:	SYS$ARCHIVE on YODA

Hi All,

There has been some major movement of files out of SYS$ARCHIVE on YODA into
our NONSUPPORTED area. If you cannot find files you want in SYS$ARCHIVE,
please check YODA::RELD$0:[NONSUPPORTED...].

In VAX Diag Release 41, several CPUs retired. You'll notice all of the
[ARCHIVE.NAUT...] areas have been moved to NONSUPPORTED, as well as all the
VENUS and PSTAR areas. Since so much had to be moved anyway, I took the
time to really take a look at what was in ARCHIVE. There were numerous
other files (particularly EV* directories) which no longer supported any
active CPUs. They too have been moved. There were also many EVQ and other
driver files which were also moved to NONSUPPORTED. The only active driver
file now is YODRIVER (still in ARCHIVE).

ARCHIVE is now cleaned out--only files which continue to support the VAX
82XX and 6XXX CPUs still remain in ARCHIVE.

The criteria for moving the files was to check the SUBMIT.DATA file for the
Supported CPUs section. I relied on that section having been filled out
accurately. If you find a program has been moved to NONSUPPORTED in error,
please send me mail.

regards,
Joan

Subj:	VAX DIAG RELEASE 42 FIELD SERVICE MAGTAPES AVAILABLE ONLINE YODA

Hi All,

Release 42 will ship from the SSB on 21-JAN-1991, rather than 15-JAN
as published in our fiscal schedule.

The Field Service magtapes for Release 42 are already available online
at:

     YODA::RELD$0:[COMPARE.FSUPD.42.TAPE_1]  contains generic (EVs)
     YODA::RELD$0:[COMPARE.FSUPD.42.TAPE-2]  contains 82XX/83XX & 6XXX

We are down to just these two magtapes this release due to the retirement
of Nautilus (85XX/8700/8800) and VENUS (86XX) in Release 41.

This release was the first release of a new COM file which has been used
successfully for updates. It is an alternative to using DUCT. See the
files V42.COM and V42.RELEASE_NOTES in the above directories. If you have
any questions or comments, see the information in the release notes on
how to contact the author, Joe O'Brien.

Reminder:
---------
If you did not receive this memo directly from Joan Bowring, you must first
be added to our proxy to access the above directories. Send mail to:

                                YODA::BOWRING

I'll need your "cluster alias", and your system manager needs the following
setup on your end for access to work:

                  Proxy access must be "incoming & outgoing"
                  Alias outgoing must be   "enabled"

Happy New Year!

Hi,

Thank you for your patience. The problem with the diagnostics EVRLB, EVRLF,
EVRLG, EVRLJ, and EVRLK and the supervisors have now been corrected. In order
to aide you in determining whether or not you have a good or bad version of
these files, I have listed the versions below. Please take notice and delete
any of the bad versions. These versions of diagnostic supervisor and
diagnostics are incompatible with each other. The most serious symptom occurs
with EVRLB, which will always format drive #0.

If you copied any of these files from

YODA::SYS$ARCHIVE: or
YODA::RELD$0:[ARCHIVE...] or
YODA::RELD$0:[43...]

recently, please take the time to check version numbers.

Subj:	*****PLEASE CONTACT HPSCAD::MILLEVILLE IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS****

A tool for aiding the QA process for diagnostic programs has been added to
YODA::SYS$RELEASE:. The tool can be used to verify a program's help file.
It constructs a command file of VAX/DS HELP commands that is executed under
the VAX/DS. The output of this command file is then compared to the contents
of the program's *.HLP file. This automatically verifies that keyword level
numbers are in the proper order. The user can visually inspect the resultant
file to verify the proper content of all the possible HELP commands.

Commitment for support by the developer, Dan (HPSCAD) Milleville, will usually
be on a 'personal time' basis, usually no more than one week for any response
needed. Feedback on problem(s) will be considered as his work and personal
time allows.

The files are:

CHECK_HLP_QA.BAS	CHECK_HLP_QA.COM	CHECK_HLP_QA.EXE

MAKE_HLP_QA.BAS		MAKE_HLP_QA.COM		MAKE_HLP_QA.EXE

MAKE_HLP_QA.EXE produces the command file of the form (diag_name)_HLP_QA.COM,
that contains the VAX/DS HELP commands.

The CHECK_HLP_QA.COM procedure can be used to verify the results of the command
file produced by the MAKE_HLP_QA.EXE program. It can verify up to 8 different
help files by submitting (on its own) successively chained batch jobs when used
as follows:

$ @CHECK_HLP_QA diag_name diag_name diag_name diag_name diag_name diag_name -
$_ diag_name diag_name

For example:

$ @CHECK_HLP_QA EVCLB EVDAA EVDAE EVDAF EVDRB EVDRB EVDRE

The results of each individual QA check is mailed to you via EMAIL.

The image files may need modifications to run in your environment.
"$ @CHECK_HLP_QA.COM REBUILD" will relink the CHECK_HLP_QA.EXE program, and
"$ @MAKE_HLP_QA.COM" will relink the MAKE_HLP_QA.EXE program. The executables
and the prog_name.HLP files are assumed to be in the user's SYS$LOGIN area.

SUB: DETAILS ON TWO SPECIAL VAX DIAGNOSTIC RELEASES
      ----------------------------------------------

Hi Everyone,

This mail will be long. It will provide detailed information on two
releases happening outside of the regular VAX quarterly release cycle.
This information will not appear elsewhere (like EVNDX.SEQ) because
these are special/non-quarterly releases. If you have no interest
in the NEPTUNE Initial Release (VAX 6000 Model 600) or in the Nautilus
Post-Retirement Release (VAX 85XX/87/8800), delete now. If you do need
this information, it may be easier to read if printed.

Before I get to the details for each release, two comments about proxy
access to YODA:
     1) There will be references throughout this mail to files
         you can get on YODA. If you did not receive this mail
         directly from Joan Bowring, please send mail to either
         PROXY::HART or PROXY::BOWRING to be added for access.
     2) Asking to be removed from the EVNDX.DIS list... Please
         be aware that this same list is normally used just
         quarterly to let you know when the VAXPAX tapes have
         been dumped online.

NEPTUNE - the VAX 6000 Model 600:
================================

There is a product introduction "separate" release for NEPTUNE (FRSed
18-NOV-1991). This release is outside the quarterly release cycle.
Only the Model 600 of the 6000 series will be supported in this release.

Because the 6XXX CPUs have merged support onto single pieces of media in
our quarterly release packages, it was necessary to create part numbers
and kits for this initial 600-only release that will be used just once.
Immediately following the 18-NOV release, the Model 600 support will be
merged onto the existing 6XXX media in VAX Diagnostic Release 46. That
media will then be packaged in the 6000 Model 500 kits. (REL46 FRS is
13-JAN-1992)

Now, I'll list the Part Numbers and Kits in support of the Model 600.
The first section is for the 18-NOV (Model 600-only) release. The
second section shows the P/Ns and kits as they'll appear in Release 46
(FRS 13-JAN-1992) with the Model 600 support merged onto the existing
6XXX media/kits.

Nautilus V10.0 Post-Retirement "Separate" Release:
=================================================

First, there will be some general comments on this release. Following
that, there will be specific lists of: 1) the files that were updated for
this release, 2) the Part Numbers and Kits reving up as a result, 3) Kit
descriptions, and 4) directions to YODA online areas for the files and
documents of this release. At the end, there will be a section on some
known problems that did not make this Nautilus release--workarounds are
given.

General Comments:
-----------------

The FRS date for this "separate" post-retirement release was 18-NOV-1991.

  o Explanation of the kit numbering sequence:

    You'll notice that your kit numbers go backwards from .41 to .10
    This is because quarterly release #41 was the last regular release
    that supported Nautilus. This post-retirement release cannot bear
    a quarterly release number. So, it has been given the release
    number of the rev. of the console (V10.0) - hence the .10 for the
    kits. If subsequent post-retirement releases occur, the kit numbers
    will reflect the console rev.

  o The VMB.EXE situation:

    You may recall, that a corrupted version of VMB.EXE was initially
    packaged in Release 41 on piece BL-FL16D-ME. That piece was obsoleted
    as soon as the problem was discovered, and manufacturing re-kitted
    and continued to ship the previous rev. (BL-FL16C-ME). In this
    V10.0 post-retirement release, we have updated BL-FL16* to rev. E
    (BL-FL16E-ME) and are now shipping the fixed version of VMB.EXE
    rev. 5.4-1 that was compatible with Nautilus systems at that time.

  o The EVKAC diagnostic update (just for Nautilus):
    NOTE: (EV) Generic means supports more than one CPU.

    You'll find the generic diagnostic EVKAC (VAX FLOAT POINT INSTR
    EXER) has been included in this release under the name EVKACZ.
    "Z" is the code for Nautilus. The 8.3 rev. of EVKAC shipped out
    in quarterly release #41 was taken and enhanced just for Nautilus,
    named EVKACZ, and bears the rev. 8.3000000001 That 8.3 rev. from
    Release 41 was used as the basis for this update because all of
    the subsequent releases of EVKAC in the quarterly cycle since 41
    have not been tested for Nautilus (because Nautilus retired). If
    Nautilus ever has another post-retirement release which includes
    another update for EVKAC, that update will be built on this EVKACZ,
    rev. 8.3000000001

  o Changes involving User's Guide and Release Notes:

    The VAX CONSOLE USER GUIDE, AA-FH28C-TE, is being "ARCHIVED" in
    this V10.0 release.  This User Guide underwent a complete update;
    however, it was not re-printed. It is instead being shipped on
    a newly-created RX50 entitled RX99C REVISION HISTORY PT3, part
    number BL-PJ46A-ME.

    The STANDALONE CONSOLE NOTES document, AA-FK20C-TE, is also being
    ARCHIVED in this V10.0 release. The information from these notes
    has been put into the updated version of the above-mentioned Console
    User Guide (now available on BL-PJ46A-ME).

    The VAX CONSOLE RELEASE NOTES were updated this release, part number
    AA-FH29T-TE. If you would like an online copy of these notes, you
    can get it from YODA::RELD$0:[DOCUMENTS.DOCUMENTS]AAFH29TTE.

    The VAX DIAG RELEASE NOTES were also updated for this release, part
    number AA-FH27L-TE.  See YODA::RELD$0:[DOCUMENTS.DOCUMENTS]AVFH27LTE.
    for an online copy.

  o H/W ECOs

    The ECOs are presently being entered into the COPS system -- since
    systems are no longer being built, these ECOs would only be of interest
    to SSB organizations bringing the ARCHIVEd kits up-to-date.

  o Fiche

    A microfiche package to support this release is being prepared and
    is expected to go out by the end of December.

These programs were updated for this post-retirement release:

NOTE: Asterisked items will have documentation available on fiche.

There are several of the EZK microdiagnostics which had a combo of .BIN and
an associated .WC1 file (rather than just the .TSK file most have). If you
are planning on doing a "copy" function to magtape, the following directories
contain .BCK files you should use. The reason is, the .WC1 files have an
"illegal file format" for copying to magtapes.

     YODA::RELD$0:[NONSUPPORTED.NAUT.EZKAH$]EZKAH.BCK  (backup savesets for
                                    .EZKAL$]            magtape "copying"

                                    .EZKAR$]
                                    .EZKAT$]
                                    .EZKAU$]
                                    .EZKAY$]
                                    .EZKBA$]
                                    .EZKBB$]
                                    .EZKBE$]
                                    .EZKPB$]

There is a series of more in-depth documentation files for most of the EZK*
microdiags. The directories with these .TXT files are listed next, but
please take note that these are strictly for Digitial Internal Use Only.

Known Problems/Work-arounds:
----------------------------

We'd like to take this opportunity to pass along some workarounds to some
known problems for which fixes did not make it into this release.

1) EVSBA - The VAX Autosizer problem:

    The following will also appear as a reply to Note 1180 in the
    NAUTILUS conference:

    Problem Reported:
      This problem was reported from the SASE::NAUTILUS notes by
      ODIXIE::SCOTT on 13-AUG-1990 18:30 as note 1180.  It is
      formally PCIS QAR 3529.
      It seems that VAXPAX 40 has a problem with EVSBA-AUTOSIZER
      6.11.  If a VAX8800 is booted from a KDB50 with DEBNA's
      configured before the KDB50 and EVSBA is run, the load
      device controller will get renamed.

    Reply:
      Note 1272.0 SASE::NAUTILUS notes conference reply reads:
      This problem was caused because the DEBNA was in the group of
      BVP devices. The BI VAX Port architecture (BVP) forces all
      device types within its group to have unique controller letters
      even though the generic names are different. Devices outside
      this group but with the same generic will then have to take
      the next letter. VAX/DS for the 8800 system did not have this
      in its database but EVSBA did. So, when EVSBA is run after
      booting from the KDB50, the devices with BVP generic names will
      set the controller letters to be unique. Devices after them
      with the same generic names will be assigned to next available
      letter. This may cause the boot device to get renamed with a
      different controller. VAX/DS for the 8800 systems has been
      retired and this problem is not believed to be critical enough
      to require reissuing it. The workaround is to do a SET LOAD
      command to the load device after running EVSBA.

    This QAR was closed.
    PCIS QAR 3529 VAX 8800 system lose KDB50 data is DEBNAs are also
      present /30-Apr-1991/SZABO

2) EVDYF - The DEBNI Diagnostic Problem with Nautilus (8810) systems:

    The DEBNI diagnostic (EVDYF) has a problem running on an 8810
    system. The problem is timing related with the diagnostic. The
    diagnostic has a 1 microsecond wait in the code. A 5 microsecond
    wait is the smallest value allowed, and smallest value that will
    wait. A 1 microsecond wait is treated like a NOP, which will not
    always be enough of a delay. If you wish to correct this problem,
    or verify the fix, load the diagnostic and then ENTER===>
    DEP/BYTE 231B 05.  You will see a 01 if you were to   ENTER===>
    EX/BYTE 231B, before changing value to 05.

3) EVKAB/EVKAC/EVKAE - Their .DOC & .HLP files give erroneous CPU
    support information:

    Please use the following for the correct CPU support information:

    EVKAB & EVKAC:  730/750/780/785
                    8200/8300/8500/8600/8800

    EVKAE:  730/750/780/785
            8200/8500/8600/8800

    The attach sequence for a VAX 85x0 in EVKAE.DOC is listed as...

         DS> ATTACH KA880 HUB KAn (1)
                (1) Primary? (Yes or No)

    The correct sequence is...

         DS> ATTACH KA850 HUB KAn (1)
                (1) Primary? (Yes or No)

That's all folks !

Hi Everybody,

The following 3 product families are scheduled to FRS from the SSB on 13-JAN-92:

                        VAX DIAGNOSTIC RELEASE 46
                        VAX 6000 SERIES V6.0
                        DEC-5800 DIAGNOSTICS V9.0

The field service magtapes in support of these releases have been dumped online
YODA and are available for access at:

          YODA::RELD$0:[COMPARE.FSUPD.46.TAPE_1]     for generic EV* files
                                        .TAPE_2]     for 6XXX CPU-specific files

Some comments about the 6XXX package...

Release 46 is the first time VAX 6000 MDL 600 (NEPTUNE) support is merged onto
the common 6XXX media/kits (this info was detailed in my previous 19-NOV memo).
In Release 46, there was no console EEPROM patch for the 6600. Also, there was
no console EEPROM patch for the 62XX/63XX or the 64XX. Only the 65XX (Mariah)
CPU has a patch in Release 46. The patch release notes in support of this can
be found at:

          YODA::RELD$0:[DOCUMENTS.DOCUMENTS]AAPFSKETE.   (no filetype extension)

This release, part number AA-PFVBA-TE - VAX 6000 EEPROM UTILITY was archived.
That information has been converted into softcopy, file named EVUCA.DOC, found
on all media with the other EVUCA* files.

Happy Holidays!

Subj:	Clarification of some VAX Diagnostic Release 46 questions.

Hi Everyone,

A couple things seem to need some clarification concerning Release 46 (which
FRSed 13-JAN-1992).

Several people have asked why EVGDB, EVDYD, and EVDYE were removed from the
media in Release 46. This decision was made to remove them because they were
not VAX 6000 Model-600 (NEPTUNE) compatible. Since the 6000 media is set up
so that one console media serves all Models, programs needed to ALSO support
Model 600 beginning with Release 46. Also, EVDYE was found to have a problem
with the Model 500s (further adding to the decision to remove them temporarily
from distribution). Since these three programs weren't updated at all in
REL 46, the versions of them that shipped in Release 45 are what you would
have received if we had left them on media in Release 46. They are now up-
dated to support the Model 600 and are on Release 47 media which will ship
13-APR-1992.

A couple people expected to see EXUCA.BIN (a patch file for the Model 600)
in Release 46. Release 46 was the first time NEPTUNE was supported in the
quarterly cycle, and no patch existed yet. There is now a patch which will
be shipping with Release 47 (FRSes 13-APR-92).

One person recently reported that he felt the CIXCD.BIN file went backwards
in rev. (or he saw a system message which was telling him that). Only one
person has reported this, however, and he was updating from rev. 1.9 (there
were several revs. in between). At any rate, in Release 46, the CIXCD folks
changed the rev. to hexidecimal format. In Release 46, the CIXCD.BIN rev.
was %x45 (this is indeed the latest rev.).

I hope I've cleared up the confusion some Release 46 changes raised with some
of you.

Following this message, I'll be sending the notification for the Release 47
changes and tape availability.

regards,
Joan

Hi Everyone,

The following three submissions will FRS from the SSB on 13-APR-1992:

                         VAX Diagnostic Release 47
                         VAX 6000 SERIES V7.0
                         DEC-5800 DIAGNOSTICS V10.0

The field service magtape has been dumped online YODA and the files in
support of this release are available at:

     YODA::RELD$0:[COMPARE.FSUPD.47.TAPE_1]

You'll notice there is only one tape directory this time. That's because
we eliminated the second field service magtape in Release 47--it was no
longer needed.

It has also been determined that the RA60 pack is no longer necessary, so
it too has been archived in Release 47. The last available update to that
pack was BD-FK93M-DE in Release 46 (FRSed 13-JAN-92).

The HSC50 OFFLINE DIAG TU58 tape is also being archived in Release 47 as it
has been determined there will be no future updates for the HSC50--Mfg. no
longer builds HSC50s.

There is an update in Release 47 for the HSC40/60/70/90 OFFLINE RX33 piece.
If you are on ADS for the VAX FIELD SERVICE MT UPD KIT (00-ZE999-HM), you'll
receive the updated HSC RX33 piece in that kit in Release 47. If not, the
kit which supports the HSC is not on automatic distribution, so you'll need
to order the following kit from the SSB:

           00-ZE300-CY.47     HSC40/60/70/90 DIAG CMPL RX33

As a result of pieces above being ARCHIVED, the following kits are being
ARCHIVED in Release 47.

           00-ZD300-CG.42     HSC50 DIAG CMPLT TU58 KIT
           00-ZE906-CJ.46 RA60 VAX FAMILY DIAG KIT
           00-ZE913-CW.44     HSC40/50/60/70/90 CMPL FLD KT
                               Note: this was a combined HSC-flavor kit;
                                     another dedicated HSC40/60/70/90 kit
                                     still exists for those subsystems.
           00-ZE950-CW.46 EUROPEAN VAX DIAG UPD KIT
                               Note: this kit's contents mirror the U.S.
                                     Field kit (00-ZE999-HM) which remains
                                     active.

VAX 6000-specific information:

The binary files updated in the VAX 6000 SERIES V7.0 release package are as
follows:

     EVUCA.EXE - Rev. 2.1 ships the following binary updates:
       ELUCA.BIN - Patch 3.D, 5.6, 7.1
       ELUCB.BIN - Patch 4.C, 6.6, 8.1

       EMUCA.BIN - Patch 2.08, 3.02
       EXUCA.BIN - Patch 1.01

The Release Notes in support of these patches are at:

Subj:	New Access Information for YODA areas

Hi,

The PROXY cluster alias is replacing YODA. For now, I'm told YODA will still
work, but at some point in the future, YODA will become an individual node.
I'm resending the Release 51 informational message to show the access areas
using PROXY rather than YODA. I've also been told that access will be faster
for you if you use PROXY rather than YODA.

Joan
