801.0. "Can LSM be used to clone a system?" by AUSSIE::CARMODY () Mon Jun 02 1997 06:51

Hi,

I have ten systems to setup, each with LSM mirrored system disks. I was wondering if I could use LSM to 'clone' a
system.
The configuration is as follows:

Hardware: Alphaserver 1000A EV5/400MHz, BA356 storage shelf with 2 x RZ29B disks.
Software: DU 3.2g with ADVFS root and usr, LSM mirrored root,swap and usr.

Can I simply move a mirror to a different system and use volrecover to re-establish the mirror. I think it may be
not be that simple (LSM appears to store the hostname in the disk id - does this present a problem if you change
the hostname of a system?).

Any recommendations on a procedure to do this would be appreciated. If required to backup onto tape, what is the
best method to use?

Thanks in advance.

    While it might be possible for some configurations, there is no
    supported procedure for this. You should do a normal install and
    encapsulation with LSM.
