Hi Why does volencap append to existing files instead of overwrite? Something went wrong when a customer did volencap on their system disk. They fixed what ever the problem was, I believe it was that volencap didn't like some LSM-partition that was present in the disklabel. Then they ran volencap again. This time they ran into problems at the reboot. They where able to pin down the problem to be that volencap appended the new commads to the existing files in /etc/vol/reconfig.d. I don't know if this is a problem specific to DU v3.2G but I could reproduce it when I was playing around with LSM on my systemdisk, doing volencap rz2g # cat /etc/vol/reconfig.d/disk.d/rz2g/newpart #volassist -g rootdg make vol-rz2g 1462256 use_type=fsgen rz2g,0 #ed /etc/vol/reconfig.d/disk.d/fstab < /etc/vol/reconfig.d/disk.d/rz2g/ed_cmnd > /dev/null #volassist -g rootdg make vol-rz2g 1462256 use_type=fsgen rz2g,0 #ed /etc/vol/reconfig.d/disk.d/fstab < /etc/vol/reconfig.d/disk.d/rz2g/ed_cmnd > /dev/null I believe that volencap -k will do a cleanup, but why an append instead of an overwrite? What does volencap -k rz2g do, DU v3.2G? It does not clean up /etc/vol/reconfig.d/disk.d/rz2g as I was expecting. By the way, what releasenotes for v3.2C, 4.4.3.6, say about manually cleaning up /etc/vol/reconfig.d still applies for v3.2G? And for v4.0x? Regards, Mikael Bringh Unix-support, TSC, Sweden | |||||

On 3.2G there were problems with volencap appending data to the encapsulation scipts in /etc/vol/reconfig.d/disk.d as well as the '-k' option not performing as expected. These have been fixed in 4.0. [Posted by WWW Notes gateway] | |||||
