770.0. "drive with root partition" by NETRIX::"typhair@mail.dec.com" () Thu Mar 20 1997 02:19

Hi

In a situation where I have say two drives, with one being a mirror
of the other through LSM. This is a system drive with the root partition
being mirrored. Each drive is on a separate KZPSA controller.

If I take a hard drive hit/crash on either drive can I expect the system to
remain running using the mirrored system drive i.e. the remaining drive?

I believe from what I have read this is the case, but I am trying to find out
whether there are any unique situations where I will not remain running.

Also, what limits migh I have and/or things you should watch for if you
want to ensure uptime, and performance?

Cheers
Steve

Yes, assuming everything on these drives were mirrored including primary
swap, /usr, etc.

Mirror secondary swap (if present) also improves availability. Also,
mirroring across controllers, as you did with root, helps both availability
and performance.
