3888.0. "DECdts Required for EMS V2.2?" by MAIL::CLAYTON (Merlin Clayton DTN 445-7217) Fri Oct 09 1992 19:53

I just recently completed the installation of the EMS V2.2 SSB kit on a
system in our demo center.

At the beginning of the installation procedure I was prompted whether or not
to install all EMS products. I said YES.
Then right after that I received a message that said something to the extent
that DECmcc EMS was using DECdts DTF 00:00 for installation and it prompted
me to hit Return> to continue. Which I did.

This dialog is not covered in the installation documentation.

The question I have is whether DECdts is a REQUIREMENT for EMS V2.2?

If so, Why?

If not, how does a TDF get set?

3888.1DECmcc checks to see if DECdts is running!TEMTY::L_GROSSMANMon Oct 12 1992 11:399
When you answer yes to install the whole EMS package, the first package
that starts installing is BMS. I am confused by the fact that the TDF
statement came before some other BMS question, but this is most probably
correct. The BMS package tries to determin if DEC DTS is running, if it
is the BMS packages automatically sets the TDF to match otherwise you could
get confusing error messages from DECmcc. DECmcc BMS also checks to
see if a DNS server is running on the system for the same reason but
BMS only sets the default responce for this case.
3888.2So DECdts is NOT Required?MAIL::CLAYTONMerlin Clayton DTN 445-7217Mon Oct 12 1992 15:2213
re; -1

So, to sum up the previous answer, EMS will use DECdts if it's there, but
if it is not, it will still ask for the TDF during installation.

Therefore, DECdts is NOT a requirement for EMS v2.2, just an option.

Is this summation correct?

Thanks for the previous reply.

    RE: .2

    The summation is correct: DECdts is optional, and will be used if
    present.
