3885.0. "DECmcc/DCM Integration" by SIOG::TINNELLY (Consultancy for fee NOT free..) Fri Oct 09 1992 15:09

    Hello Folks,

We have just sold DECmcc to Dupont to manage their network, and they
are also in the process of implementing DCM to manage the systems etc.

Some of their people in the USA are requesting info regarding the
integration of DCM and DECmcc. They are looking for info regarding the
correct strategy and how best to achieve an effective integrated
systems/network management system. Any reading material etc, I
could post to them gratefully accepted.

I am sure we have integrated DCM and DECmcc at lots of sites, I would
be interested in any info or feedback, tools etc, on how best to achieve
this. This is a consultancy opportunity.

    many thanks Peter.

The Official, and somewhat short/not helpfull reply is that NIS is supposed to
provide that information to the field. We get beat up from time to time
for not "making" the "field" be self-sufficient. At some point, your request
should land on the desk of Steve Lane, US NIS Consultant, and be worked on.
He did stop by just today and ask that any request of this type be passed on to
him.

  Data Center Monitor for Unix

The version 2.1 of DCM for Unix will be ready to enter field
  in a few weeks....
The DCMX central consolidator runs on VAX and RISC hardware that
supports Ultrix V4.2 or later; the DCMX remote watchdog runs on
  Vax/Risc Ultrix V4.2, SunOS V4.1.1 and HP-UX V8.05 (series 720).

Major Enhancements and Improvements of version 2.1 are:
    - HP-UX platform support
    - Command driven database editor
    - DECmcc as a presentation module <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
    - New events reporting:
      o Ethernet interface errors
      o Device queue problems
      o File size limit
      o Interactive login limits

Many thanks for the responses, I think we have managed to convince
Dupont, that for now they should concentrate on implementing DCM and
DECmcc as two seperate projects. Once they become familiar with both
and even reach Guru level, then they can move onto integrating both DCM
and DECmcc. From what I understand there is no difficulty in doing
    this.

    Regards Peter.
