3870.0. "Applications launch capabilities" by AEOEN1::TUAUX (Sylviane) Wed Oct 07 1992 12:15

Hello,

I read in DECmcc USE manual that we can invoke external application from the
Applications menu.
An application can even get the entity and the domain name selected by the user
via file mcc_launched_time.dat.

My question is : In DECmcc V1.2 or next version V1.3, will the external
application be able to get multiple subentities (children of the same
global entity) selected by user in the map window to work on them.

Thanks and regards

Sylviane.

The mcc_launch*.dat file only contains information about the *SELECTED*
entities. So, if the child entities are displayed on the map and they
are selected, the the launched application data file will contain the
class-instance pairs needed to uniquely identify them. To that extent,
what you request works with DECmcc V1.2.

I just tested this by adding the putting each of the Interfaces of my
workstation on the map, selecting them both, then starting my telnet
launched application. The datafile created by the Iconic Map PM looked
    like this:

DOMAIN: doug-test
MAPFILE: MCC_MAPS:mcc_1213000400AA000001CB7904F1166D40.mcc_map_doug-test
SENTITY: SNMP ( LOCAL_NS:.mcdoug_ip , 16.20.144.122 , mcdoug.lkg.dec.com ) Interface 2
SENTITY: SNMP ( LOCAL_NS:.mcdoug_ip , 16.20.144.122 , mcdoug.lkg.dec.com ) Interface 1

So, as long as they're visible and 'selectable' on the map, you can
pass the data into the launched application. Your application has to
be able to 'weed out' the data that you want, however.

    regards,
