3842.0. "How is domain name dispayed on IMPM?" by KTOV11::TATSUNO (Hasta la vista, baby!) Thu Oct 01 1992 13:03

Hi.

As I created a new Domain at the top level, called .kyoto and I picked a
Domain icon up from the toolbox, DECmcc displayed a new Domain ialog box.
So I entered .kyoto.unit1 as the new Domain name and Member Type, then clicked
on the OK button and double clicked somewhere in the Domain Map(.kyoto).

Now, I however expected that the Domain icon would appear with name
laveled `.unit1', it actually apeared with name lavel saying `.kyoto.uni1'.

Is this normal work? Seeing the DECmcc USE Manual, it seems that
the domain, like .MP.EC.GBR, that belongs to its parent, MP.EC, have the name
lavel `.GBR' in the .MP.EC Domain map. (See 3-33 of DECmcc USE)

Did I missed any operations or just have I misunderstood on this
function ?

This could be trivial things anyway ?

/Biff

3842.1fullname does not imply containment hierarchyKAJUN::NELSONThu Oct 01 1992 14:3820
Domain names are of datatype FULLNAME. FULLNAMEs are made of a sequence
of SIMPLENAMES. SIMPLENAMEs are of (one of them, anyway) the form
.zzzzzz. Sooo, a fullname might be .ddd.yy.tre.

The sequence of fullnames does not imply any containment hierarchy within
DECmcc. The sequence of fullnames implies a path within the namespace.

Domains, like nodes and snmp entities, are global - they have no parent.
A domain is a collection or grouping of objects (members). They imply
no containment hierarchy. Each of the members of the domain are global
entities in their own right.

`.kyoto.uni1' is a valid domain name, but does not imply that domain
`.uni1' is subordinate to domain `.kyoto'. Just like a node4 named
`jasper' in domain `.kyoto' is not represented as node4 `.kyoto.jasper',
but as node4 jasper.
