3806.0. "DECbridge 90 - how to manage" by GIDDAY::DRANSFIELD (Mike Dransfield, Sydney RSSG) Mon Sep 28 1992 02:30

    Is the DECbridge 90 really not supported with V1.2 MCC ELM?

    I am confused having read all the notes that I could find about
    the support of the DECbridge 90 which say it may be in 1.2 or maybe
    a bit of support will be in V1.2.
    The thing that really has me confused, is that when I bring up the
    V1.2 iconic map toolbox to register a bridge, it has an icon for
    the decbridge 90, but when I try to register one, it claims that
    it 'cannot communicate with target'.

    So do I use SNMP and wait for hubwatch for MCC/VMS ?

    Thanks,
    Mike

3806.1We sort-of support the DECbridge 90 :-)SLINK::CHILDSEd ChildsMon Sep 28 1992 12:255
    There is basic support for the DECbridge 90 in the SSB V1.2 ELM AM.
    The DECbridge 90 implements Phy Ports differently than the other bridge
    models and we didn't have time to fully implement that. So we don't
    officially support the DECbridge 90, but the bridge, line, forwarding
    database and protocol database support is mostly there.
3806.2so why can't I register decbridge 90?GIDDAY::DRANSFIELDMike Dransfield, Sydney RSSGMon Sep 28 1992 23:0411
    re: .1
    Thanks for the reply.
    I take this to mean that I should be able to register a decbridge 90.
    But I can't! and I don't have any idea why. I know that the bridge is
    there, as I can connect to it using remote console with NCP. I can
    communicate to other bridges (DECbridge 620's) on the same LAN, but
    get the 'cannot communicate ' with the DECbridge 90.
    Are there other requirements to be able to communicate other than
    having both boxes plugged into the same extended lan?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Yes, REGISTER definitely works.

| get the 'cannot communicate ' with the DECbridge 90.

    Then it sounds like the bridge is not reachable through the ethernet
    device that the MCC ethernet access routines are trying to use. Can
    you try the following commands and post the results:

    MCC> show mcc 0 bridge_am all attributes
    MCC> test bridge 08-00-2B-xx-yy-zz
    MCC> show station 08-00-2B-xx-yy-zz all attributes

    How do you have the bridge connected to your LAN?
3806.4Need to make sure DB 90 has RBMSQUIVER::HAROKOPUSTue Sep 29 1992 13:556
    This may also mean that the DECbridge 90 does not have the RBMS
    flash loaded. The Bridge AM requires that the bridge supports RBMS.
    I believe that firmware version 2.9 supports RBMS and that earlier
    versions do not.

3806.5will try again..REDBCK::mikeTue Sep 29 1992 23:067
Hi,
Thanks for the replies.
I am not going on site again until next wednesday, so can't try anything
until then.
I will check the commands and the firmware version of the DECbridge.
Thanks,
Mike
3806.6I think its the firmwareGIDDAY::DRANSFIELDMike Dransfield, Sydney RSSGWed Oct 07 1992 01:537
    re: .3,.4
    I think that it is the firmware as I can connect to the bridge
    and a show bridge gets
    V1.12 FPROM V1.5.
    I will try upgrading the firmware and see if I get any further.
    Thanks,
    Mike
3806.7What did you determine about the DECbridge 90CUJO::HILLDan Hill-Net.Mgt.-Customer ResidentMon Jan 11 1993 02:106
    What did you find? I have a customer with the same problem.

    I am not in a good position to check the version, but will try.
