3804.0. "Proteon management with DECmcc" by BACHUS::VANDENBERGHE () Fri Sep 25 1992 12:59

	Hi,

	I am trying to manage a P4100+ through DECmcc using SNMP.
	The S/W version of the Proteon is 11.0d. DECmcc SNMP module is
	enroled with the Proteon_mib_def.txt for version 11.0c (the only one
	included in the DECmcc 1.2 kit).
	SNMP agent on the Proteon is enabled with Read/Write access,
	Community name 'public' (lower case)
	Most (99%) of the variables that I am trying to access comes with
	"Attribute not Gettable" info.

	Does someone had this problem and what should I check?

	Thanks in advance
	Robert

	NB: The same note was posted in the TOKEN_RING notes files.

	Check with Proteon if they have a new mib for 11.0d. Vendors have
	been known to change their mib pretty frequently which can make
	the mibs shipped with DECmcc obsolete pretty fast.

3804.2So what !BACHUS::VANDENBERGHEMon Sep 28 1992 06:427
    So what, Is it not up to Digital to keep update info's about private
    MIB of Proteon !
    And why should a MIB older than the actual S/W runing on Proteon not be
    compatible ?

    Best Regards,

	Robert,

	We try to ship the latest versions of the mibs with our kit. However,
	they might have come out with newer versions since V1.2 went to SSB.

	Backward compatibitlity should be a concern when developing a new
	version of the agent. However, sometimes the vendors create a whole
	new subtree, which would mean that you'd need a whole new mib.

	My guess is that your problem is different. You probably need to
	enable all the management groups from the console before you can
	start getting variables back from the agent. Look at Proteon's
	software options manual for more information.
