| I can give you one person's view of what those items may have meant at
the time - however, with recent budget changes, old plans may not be
completely accurate today. I'll leave it to others to speculate on what
will actually happen.
"LTM and/or RMON traffic monitoring"
"LTM" is the LAN Traffic Monitor product, which is part of the DECmcc EMS
package - it provides for monitoring of a LAN segment via a dedicated
(or partly dedicated LAN bridge). There has been thoughts of trying to
integrate the LTM capability provided by the host software (ie. not
obviating the bridge hardware) integrated into DECmcc.
"RMON" is an IETF MIB, for Remote MONitoring - often via specialised
devices (known as pods). This is more of an open standard than the
proprietary LTM approach, and seems more likely to appear in a product.
Hopefully, the notion of "traffic monitoring" needs no further
explanation here.
"Limited Accounting" is related to traffic monitoring in some way.
Accounting, as a general topic, incorporates both the usage monitoring
aspects as well as the billing and chargeback aspects. Initially, we
thought that usage accounting was more desireable, and more feasible,
and more generally applicable to our customer base.
"Trouble Ticketing" refers to the ability to create something (known
as a "trouble ticket") when a fault (or symptom) is detected, and to
use the ticket as a way to track the problem through to resolution.
There is, for example, a good TT capability built into the TeMIP
extensions to DECmcc. Other parties (such as Target Systems and
Remedy) build similar tools.
Hope this helps

| If your customer wants some more immediate LAN monitoring capabilities,
we have a strategic vendor relationship with Technically Elite Concepts
in Hermosa Beach, CA. In Europe, the products are sold by a company
called MENTEC.
They have written a DECmcc AM to manage their Net/Pod device (a LAN
probe). In addition, their LAN monitoring application, the Network
Professor, can be launched from the DECmcc Iconic Map.
Today, their software runs on VMS only, but they are working feverishly
to port to UN*X.
Your customer can buy the Net/Pod AM and/or the Network Professor from
Digital or can contact TEC directly.

| Hi,
Thanks for the info.
Do you know who to contact, or where on the net I can find more info about
the Net/Pod AM ?
I have been searching this Notes Conference, and haven't found anything yet.
Thanks,
Jack van Gorkum...
