3746.0. "Site Mngt Station (SMS) to EMS distribution ?" by ISKATE::BILLD () Tue Sep 15 1992 21:54

Greetings,

I have a customer who purchased the Site Management Station package when
it was offered. I discovered in the April 13, 1992 Sale Update, that a customer
who has this package "will automatically receive DECmcc Extended LAN Manager V1.2
in DECmcc EMS V2.2 (VMS only)" ...with MDDS service. It also stated under the
MIGRATION section that an EMS customer will receive EMS version 2.2 though the
"normal service delivery channel".

My customer would like to know when and how he can obtain his update for
the lastest version of the EMS software. He is primarily interested in the
enhancements providing for SMNP support. He expected to see it on the September
Consolidated Distribution CD for VMS, but it wasn't there.

Could someone help me out with the availability of version 2.2 of the
EMS software (targeted for shippment in May or July 1992) and how it is being
distributed to SMS customers?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

	Regards,

		Bill

Hi all,

information politics about the new SMS/EMS versions is really bad. One question
to all the guys out in the field:

"Do you know when EMS will come out? If no, please raise your hands. THANKS,
THANKS, ENOUGH, ENOUGH!"

Does ANYBODY know when EMS will come out, what it will cost, when the SPD will
come out, and on which CD it will be available?

Nobody?

Sad, because a lot of customers are waiting for it or information about it (six
to ten in the Central Germany area alone, and some big names among them).

BTW, I remember a letter I sent to Engineering regarding this (must have been a
month or more ago). I never got a response.

Arrrgh,

Josch

With the release of the DECmcc V1.2 Family of Software Products, the license
for DECmcc SMS will no longer be available in the Digital Price Book. This
decision was made in an effort to make it as easy as possible for our customers
to order DECmcc software packages. Due to this decision, Digital is offering a
special upgrade to all DECmcc SMS users. These users will be able to order a
license that will upgrade their current DECmcc SMS V2.1 software to the higher
level DECmcc EMS V2.2 software. (Please note that DECmcc SMS is a subset of
DECmcc EMS.)

All DECmcc SMS customers are eligible for the equivalent functionality of
DECmcc EMS through the use of a special part number that will be available in
the Digital Price Book for a period of six (6) months starting on or about
September 1, 1992.

If you are a DECmcc SMS user, and want to order this part number and receive
the special DECmcc EMS V2.2 upgrade license, please note the following:

o DECmcc SMS to DECmcc EMS Upgrade License:
	Part Number:	QL-04GA9-AA
	MLP: $500.00

All DECmcc SMS customers will need to purchase the appropriate media and
documentation associated with DECmcc EMS V2.2. Customers who have subscribed
to CDDS can simply install the equivalent DECmcc EMS kit.

o Media and Documentation kit for DECmcc EMS V2.2:
	Part Number:	QA-YFVAA-H*

DECmcc SMS service contracts will not automaticallly be changed to DECmcc EMS.
Customers must change their service contracts to receive future releases
of DECmcc EMS software. Customers with DECmcc SMS service contracts (or
warranties) will need to order the appropriate service contracts for DECmcc
EMS:

o Part Number: QT-YFV**.**-*

If you need more information on the DECmcc SMS to DECmcc EMS Upgrade Program,
please contact your country network Marketing Manager and/or your country
Service Manager, or the contact names listed at the beginning of this memo.

Thank you,
DECmcc Engineering

My thanks to DECmcc Engineering for the comprehensive response. I will
pass it on to my customer.

To tack on a little more information...

I talked to Deb Curtis, the DECmcc EMS Product Manager, about a
statement in the Sales Update Article of April 13, 1992 which said that all SMS
customers will be upgraded to the EMS product set given that SMS is going away.
The requirement was that the customer has to be under an MDDS contract -for a
no cost upgrade from DECmcc SMS to DECmcc EMS. Basically, a customer who does
not have an MDDS contract will have to purchase the upgrade for about $510,
for which he will receive a PAK to run the DECmcc EMS V2.2 software. He will
also need the documentation for EMS. EMS V2.2 is scheduled for completion by
October 7, 1992. The media is scheduled to be included in the November
Consolidated CD Distribution.

Deb Curtis provided me with a draft form letter, which was written
by Laurel Nelson of DECmcc Engineering, which is meant for distribution to
all existing SMS customers. It was provided to me for informational purposes,
ONLY. If anyone would like to read this letter, I would contact Deb Curtis at
DTN: 264-8532. This letter goes into sufficient detail to answer all my
questions, to include part numbers.

I hope this helps all who are interested in the DECmcc EMS product
offering.

	Regards,

		Bill
