| The Common Agent for ULTRIX V1.0 product set addresses this
problem of extending manageability of network, system,
and application objects.
The base kit provides an SNMP protocol engine which
encodes and decodes SNMP pdu and dispatches to
Managed Object Modules (MOMs). The base kit provides
an Internet MOM which provides RFC 1213 capability.
The developers toolkit enables one to *rapidly*
produce a MOM. Our college summer intern learned
the pre-field test technology and produced a Disk MOM
(df info) for ULTRIX in about a week (which ships
on the kit as an example.)
Basically, one models the object via an IEFT RFC mib
or EMA msl specification, and submits the model
to the tool set which produces the template .c,
.h, and Makefile files. What is left as an exercise
to the developer is the MOV R0, R1 stuff: for
a SNMP get- retrieving requested data from the object
and returning the value as an output parameter; for
a SNMP put- writing a parameter value to the object.
The product went to external field test last month.
We are looking for more internal and external test sites
to produce MOMs.
